RIP Ulver's Tore Ylwizaker

2024-08-19 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 43 Comments
Unfortunately, Ulver's long time member, Tore Ylwizaker passed away on August 16th, on the eve of his 54th birthday. He was invited by Kristoffer Rygg in late 1997 to join him in creating Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and had been an essential member ever since in shapeshifting Ulver's sound. Tore mainly took care of the electronic programming, live keyboards, piano and synths, but also extended his role to mixing and producing various of group's albums and EPs. The cause of his death was not mentioned in the band's post regarding this tragic event.

"It is with black holes in our hearts we have to inform you that our brother for over nearly thirty years, Tore Ylvisaker (Ylwizaker), is dead. He passed on in the night of 16 August, his 54th birthday. It is all too much to take in at the moment. We will return as soon as we have collected ourselves. Rest in peace, dearest friend. We love you, forever. ULVER"

Shocking news, hard RIP.

There are a lot of songs that could be posted featuring Tore's contributions and especially his trademark "Ulver piano" sound.

Saw the news this morning, RIP hard. He's been a core member of Ulver since Themes, did all of the programming and electronics on Perdition City, and has been one of the 3 core members since their post black metal era, alongside Garm and Jorn. His impact on modern Ulver can't be understated.

Fucking terrible news, RIP……

End of an era for sure, for the band and everyone who loves their "naughts" output, at least.

Perdition City is a fucking classic, and I fucking love the EPs and film scores released in the early to mid naughts.

I've been on a big Ulver kick and have been obsessed with the Norwegian National Opera show lately. I kept marveling at his setup and how he played all those keyboards simultaneously. Ridiculous. RIP.

Oh shit no, huge RIP. His contribution to Ulver was incredible, band made all of their best albums with him and would never have had remotely the same footing in electronic and classical otherwise. Hope he at least passed peacefully
