Absolutely epic.

Not bad tbh, I enjoyed it a fair bit
|
| |
Probably most consistent melodeath band out there
|
| |
Nah
|
| |
Who is it then?
|
| |
Be'lakor, Dark Tranquillity or Kalmah innit
|
| |
Be'lakor I agree, but they didn't make as many albums as Insomnium yet so time will only tell if whether they remain consistent or not (my guess is they will tho)
Dark Tranquillity have a few duds like Haven or We Are the Void
Kalmah is more of a personal thing; good band (though I found their last 4 albums to be meh), but that specific style of melodeath doesn't do all that much for me.
Insomnium have 7 records and the quality of those 7 albums goes from extremely good to downright terrific imho. That and I'm a sucker for these "sadboy" vibes in general.
|
| |
Ah, that's fair enough. WATV was indeed a dud, but Haven is great, I recommend you revisit it whenever you feel like it.
Kalmah's last two are actually great, kinda weird you don't dig those if you enjoy their earlier stuff like Black Waltz.
As for Insomnium, it's just personal taste I s'pose. Their first four albums do nothing for me, and I am partial to bits and pieces from the rest. Winter's Gate is amazing though, very very atmospheric.

In general Dark Tranquillity is probably the melodeath band that gets the most playtime from me. I jam them a ton. Haven always left me a bit cold tbh.
I get some enjoyment out of early Kalmah, but even the early stuff I rarely feel like jamming. They're very good, but their sound is just not one I'm all that partial to. Their later stuff bored me last time I listened to it tbh.
Insomnium, I feel, have a knack for creating some of the most melancholic melodies put to tape. And their lyrics are standout as well.

Love these guys. Song is great, as expected.
|
| |
surprised at the positive reception, this is so cheesy and boring
|
| |
Valediction? I need to listen to fall of efrafa again now
|
| |
This and the new In mourning dropping same day, liking their new track more tho :3
|
| |
Nice, good song
|
| |
this made me realize that i havent jammed these guys in a good three years.
also finnish landscape is amazing
|
| |
Super catchy, really good song
|
| |
meh, kinda rubbish
|
| |
you love to see it
|
| |
Pretty decent but the background melodies need to be louder. Still I like this better than anything on winters gate. Thought that one was pretty boring. They'll never top TDIACD though. Back when they used to riff and didnt have those lame clean vocal sections that they shoehorn in now
|
| |
its a grower
|
| |
This is pretty good.

"Back when they used to riff and didnt have those lame clean vocal sections that they shoehorn in now"

we got the promo for this so i'll have a review closer to release
|
| |
Pretty good but I don't find myself listen to melo death much anymore. Use to be my favorite subgenre.
|
| |
This album has my favorite Insomnium song ever, Pale Morning Star. When it releases, that's the song you need to hear.
|
| |
damnit Willie can I get the album file from you I wanna listen to it
|
| |
Sorry. I can't betray our label reps.
|
| |
Some of their cleans are cringe, others not so much. I'm a big fan of the ones on "Through the Shadows".
|
| |
I'm a huge Insomnium fan but Ive always struggled to get behind the clean vocals and feel they have always detracted bar a few exceptions. I hope they are not particularly prominent on the new record.
New song is ok.
|
| |
The only decent cleans they've had are the ones on Across the Dark. Ville's singing just isn't good.
Agreed about Pale Morning Star, what a fantastic song.
|
| |
🤘 🤘 🤘
|
| |
This smashes so goddamn hard.
They definitely are veering into a more energetic, cathartic direction
|
| |
Dark Tranquility and these dudes should tag team an album. "Weather The Storm" is such a great song.
|
| |
It looks like Jani is singing the cleans in the video. I wonder if he recorded them and will be handling the other cleans on the album/live. They remind me of newer Anders Friden on here.
|
| |
Good track, main riff rules
|
| |
how do you even distinguish those bands?
|
| |
Love me some Insomnium. Saw them live last year and they killed it.
|
| |
Band slayz.
|
| |
I love the band but this song is a big meh for me dog.
|
| |
[2] I feel like I was gonna comment the exact thing
