Andy Williams Dies at 48

2026-09-07 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 27 Comments
Andy Williams, the founding guitarist of Every Time I Die who later became a professional wrestler under the name The Butcher, died on September 5 at the age of 48.

Williams collapsed at ringside following a tag-team match promoted by Enjoy Wrestling at Mr. Smalls Theater in Millvale, Pennsylvania. Doctors at the venue administered CPR and used a defibrillator before he was transported to hospital, where he died later that night.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet determined the cause or manner of his death. Although medical personnel at the venue believed his symptoms were consistent with a cardiac event, no official cause has been announced.

Williams co-founded Every Time I Die in Buffalo, New York, in 1998 and remained the band's rhythm guitarist throughout its career. He appeared on all nine of the influential metalcore group's studio albums, from 2001's Last Night in Town through 2021's Radical, before the band separated in 2022.

After pursuing professional wrestling during the latter years of Every Time I Die, Williams joined All Elite Wrestling in 2019. Performing as The Butcher, he formed a long-running tag team with Jesse Guilmette's The Blade and became a recognizable figure across AEW and Ring of Honor programming.

Williams had also recently formed the metalcore band Atomic Rule. Shortly before his death, he revealed that the group had finished writing and recording demos for new material.

AEW remembered Williams as a trailblazing musician who successfully moved into professional wrestling and earned considerable respect from his peers both inside and outside the ring.

The outpouring of love and tributes dedicated to this man is a testament to how good of a soul he truly was. Unfortunately I never got to meet Andy, but I just know if we ever crossed paths he would make me feel welcome as though we were always friends. A big man with an even bigger heart who was genuine to every person he came across.

This one really fucked me up man. RIP Andy, I really hope you and Bo are riffing in heaven.

The outpouring of love for this man has been something I've rarely seen. After a while, it's almost like we knew him personally, so many are the stories everyone is sharing. Keith Buckley's posts in particular were very touching, to the point it almost made me feel I had lost one of my own. I don't know, can anyone aspire to a better legacy than this? RIP Andy.

Big RIP, this dude was truly a killer guitar player and riff writer. The wave that hit the metal scene has actually been insane to see from this, sounds like everyone never had a single bad thing to say about him.
