Members Of Supernova Speak Up

2006-03-17 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 10 Comments
Members of the newest rock supergroup, Supernova, have spoken for the first time about their involvement in CBS' Rock Star series.

Drummer Tommy Lee, who was widely rumoured to be the subject of the show before the full line-up was revealed, had the following to say about the project: "I've toured with both Gilby and Jason. They're incredible musicians and I've always wanted to play with them. Starting a new band with old friends on worldwide television is going to be a blast, and we're going to pull out all the stops to find the most charismatic and musically talented lead singer to front SUPERNOVA. I love breaking the rules."

Bassist Jason Newsted, formerly of heavy metal kings Metallica, added, "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to play with guys I've respected for a long time. It gives us a chance to be innovators. This is a new thing. It's never been done before. We're going to break new ground musically and on television. The anticipation is building in me every day. This is a supergroup in the truest sense."

Ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, who completes the trio of founding members, chimed in with this: "Rock n' roll is so alive and I'm so excited to be a part of CBS's 'Rock Star'. This is television history. Where else can you raid three historic bands to form one great band? I can't wait for the summer to begin."

Having found a singer via the show, the band will hit the studio with renowned producer and solo artist Butch Walker, who worked with Lee on his 2005 album Tommyland: The Ride, co-writing, co-producing and guesting on lead single 'Good Times.'

Also speaking was ex-Jane's Addiction and current Panic Channel guitarist Dave Navarro, who will return as host of the second season of the show. "I'm excited to see what SUPERNOVA sounds like. Having Jason Newsted on board is for me, the really amazing part of this whole thing. Everyone knows Tommy and I are into doing other forms of media and entertainment, but Newsted? That's insane! At the end of the day, Tommy is one of rock's most amazing drummers and Newsted is such an incredible bass player. I personally can't wait to see what this rhythm section can bring. Gilby has played with everyone and with the exception of Perk [Stephen Perkins, ex-Jane's Addiction drummer] and Chaney [Chris Chaney, ex-Jane's Addiction bassist], I can't think of a more solid canvass for him to texturize with his instrument. All I can say is... These contestants better be able to sing, son!"

The other supernova had a song that was in clerks. It was the song that was playing in the background while they were talking about the deathstar and all that star wars stuff.

I hope they do change they're name though. the name Supernova sucks.

Yeah, Supernova sounds like a mega nerd super-group. Newsted is cool though.
