Wow...the vocals are bad.
| |
This is the band that put out Revolutions Per Minute and Siren Song of the Counter Culture. Unbelievable.
| |
Considering the revolting political situation of the world these days, you'd think Rise Against would sound more pissed off.
| |
Nowhere Generation was terrific. Gave me a lot of hope for the band's future.
This track must be a joke.
| |
Sounds like any Rise Against song from the last 10 years, not sure why people are surprised.
| |
Idk title track of last record was amazing
| |
oof
| |
This is rather bad. Why do the vocals sound so muffled? As previously posted you'd think Tim would sound much angrier with the social and political climate these days. Shame because Revolutions per Minute was incredible. Unraveling was cool too.
| |
scared to listen to this lol
| |
can someone tell me how many pick slides this has so i dont have to listen to it
| |
Yikes... same old Rise against... worse vocals/production than ever. It doesn't even sound like the vocals are on time with the song and the energy is just not there anymore. I don't know if those effects and backing vocals are meant to cover up Tim's weakening voice but they aren't helping at all. It just sounds like he's tired and singing in a bathroom.
| |
Vocals sound fine if maybe 5% lower than typical
Song structure is predictable and exactly like their material from 20 years ago. How boring. Idk how you listen to this shit genre lol
| |
I think this might be hands down the worst Rise Against song I've heard.
| |
I wasn't expecting this to be that bad. I stopped listening to them after Siren Song (I don't know why sometimes I just stop listening to bands after a few albums or look for something new/else). I knew singles after it ofc, but this song is just so lifeless.
| |
who the fuck produced this lmfao they need to get fired immediately
| |
Yeah the production is thin as hell.
| |
Nah, Endgame was solid and Wolves is the worst by far.
| |
Yea, the song is pretty standard RA, nothing special except for those bad vocals lol
| |
Good grief the production is bad. The song itself is also incredibly un-inspired. If the rest of the album sounds remotely close to this, we're in for a bad time.
| |
The last real banger they had was Satellites. That was probably the last single that felt like it had the energy and delivery that Rise Against used to deliver so well. Endgame was okay overall but it was definitely when their sound started to get long in the tooth for me. Appeal To Reason was the last full album I ever bother revisiting. Everything after that has a couple of worthwhile tracks at best. Wolves is definitely their worst. Nowhere Generation was surprisingly much better than Wolves but still nothing amazing.
They've kinda just strung out all the juice that they could from their sound and messaging. Honestly, everything after The Sufferer & The Witness has just been a lesser version of that album in terms of melodies and energy. The only thing that could keep that vibe going strong is a ton of energy and extremely hooky melodies but those have been on a decline since.
| |
nahhh Black Market slaps. Eco-Terrorist goes hard. Tragedy + Time was their last catchy af single. but even beyond singles, Black Market has a good handful of bangerz
and The Violence was aight imo, their last good single as far as i'm concerned
| |
Black Market is fine. Maybe better than Endgame overall. But there's just nothing on these later albums that doesn't feel less inspired and exciting than what came before. They nailed the energy, melody, and overall flow so well on those earlier albums. It's not that everything since has been bad. It's just like, "Yeah, that sounds like Rise Against but just not quite as good". I'd rather just listen to Sufferer or Appeal again and maybe put a playlist together from some of the more recent stuff that's decent.
| |
New RA and Papa Roach on the same day? It looks like everyone's here for one possibly last payday. I honestly can't fathom why people would be interested in listening to this uninspired undercooked shit, I can see why people attend their concerts out of nostalgia, but they should just stop tarnishing their reputation with every subsequent release
| |
my thought of the day is Injection may be their best track. perfect representation of everything the transition to their alt rock era is about with just enough edge to show they've still got it. that wooahhhoh in the last chorus is one of the best melodies i've ever heard
| |
lmao no, it's Survive duhhhhhhhh but Injection is probs 2nd for me atm
| |
Drones and Midnight Hands and Last Chance Blueprint are the best.
| |
“New RA and Papa Roach on the same day?”
I liked new Papa Roach way more than this, at least it was fun.
| |
"Yeah, that sounds like Rise Against but just not quite as good" [2]
Sums up my thoughts pretty much, even with the wack vocals. The new PR single isn't any special either but ngl I'm a little hyped to see them both in september
| |
Drones + Midnight Hands + Rumors could round out my top 5 tbh
| |
The Good Left Undone, Survive, Whereabouts Unknown, Prayer Of The Refugee, and Savior are peak Rise Against for me. You listen to Savior and compare it to this new song and it's just like... damn, what the fuck happened?
| |
This song pissed in my hands
| |
This is your city's local rock band level of bad
| |
Damn, this used to be my favourite band when I was like 14-16, but this is just ass.
At least Revolutions Per Minute still kinda holds up, so I don’t have to be THAT embarrassed.
| |
I love Rise Against but this is very boring. Where is the energy? That vocal effect is also bad lol
| |
Last time I enjoyed some RA songs were from Endgame. Now they're just a watered down radio friendly rock band now. Where are the melodic hardcore and punk rock energy from this band? Understandable that they need to pay bills but jeezus their last albums are boring as shit. At least they can inject some of their old sound to their new songs.
| |
Did he finish a 10 mile run right before recording this?
| |
This is shockingly bad. Why is everything so out of time?
| |
His vocals are off. I like the instrumentation but the vocals are clearly fucky.
| |
Oh my, this is rough.
| |
I'm a fan of most of Rise Against's music, even the later albums that people don't like (I really enjoyed Wolves, sue me), but this is really bad. The vocals sound bad, the song isn't very energetic or catchy, it just sounds like they've given up. I would think that Rise Against, of all bands, would get fired up with a new wave of anger about the state of the country, but I guess old age and financial success have made them complacent. Time for a new band to take the torch of politically-conscious, energetic post-hardcore/alt rock and run with it.
| |
I'm seriously scared of Bad Religion now...
| |
I don't hate the direction, but it sounds AWFUL. Re-record everything from scratch.
| |
What the fuck is this
| |
Is this a b-side from Siren Song? Good lord. I just listened to Sufferer and The Unraveling this week and they're both still awesome. New garbage can't take away all RA's old great albums.
| |
honestly theyve made stuff i like less than this (still bad tho lmao) but good lord the mix really is horrid what were they thinking
| |
Sads
| |
Garageband can do better lol or just as good at least
| |
I looked at the youtube comments, and it's sad how most people just post the same ol buzzwords. I saw one that literally said "BABE, Wake up New Rise Against." Literally who posts that, if it isn't a bot. The internet was supposed to promote individuality and now it really is just a bunch of yes people.
| |
My fav was "When we needes them most they came back"
| |
what on earth is this vocal mix?
this feels so flaccid
| |
Ectier. People did complain about the recording and sound which is my gripe too. I am a lapsed Rise Against fan and I actually do think the marble image is fitting I LIKE that. Holy crap this song fucking sucks.
Anyone who posted "when we needes" is just. Why. I can pull up other stupid memes, but man Swing Life Away. Swing this AI internet away.
| |
"I'm seriously scared of Bad Religion now..." age of unreason already sealed it for me w them ngl, the lack of energy in these new songs bewilders me
| |
I want them pissed off and to come out swinging or for them to break it down to ghost note sypmphonies stuff i am a fan of the bands older work and some of their newer records have some decent songs on them but their glory days are behind them
| |
Saw these guys for the first time in a decade a few months ago. It was one of the worst concerts I’ve ever seen. They’re old and tired now. The fight isn’t in them anymore. It’s sad to see.
| |
I didn't want to turn this into a Bad Religion topic. I actually never heard much of their last album. And I'll just bump a BR topic. But I'll give an olive branch to Tim because I heard his voice is really bad now. It can happen screaming. But BR is a different topic. The best RA album is RPM.
| |
Tim’s voice is indeed awful now.
| |
Their last album was the first time they sounded slightly off auto pilot since appeal to reason.
Unfortunately this sounds like a return to not even trying.
| |
The obvious (but not only) issue with Rise Against has been that Zach Blair sucks at writing songs.
| |
Yea, ever since Zach joined the songs lacked energy tbh and Tim had to make up for it with his singing performance
| |
christ, man, at least we got some great music out of the Bush years. we're really in for another term of nothing but "The Kids are Alt-Right"s, huh.
| |
It's hard to be a punk band and maintain longevity with new releases years later from your "peak". I mean this isn't punk, but you know what I'm saying. It seems like you either go out really hard and fast, mellow out and fade, or just never let up and have a heart attack on stage like "The Exploited." No hate towards anyone, and there are exceptions, but that seems to the way it goes a lot of times. lol
| |
I strongly believe that punk is the music of youthful, angsty rage and that's just not really sustainable, neither as a lifestyle nor as a way of creating art, because at some point you need to learn the craft and can't rely on that youthful spirit anymore. Do I make sense? There might be exceptions to this, I am not an expert on the genre. It's what I believe based on the few punk bands I loved
| |
The Adolescents put out a great screamy album, uhh six years ago. Heck Jawbreaker got back together.
I know there are newer bands, too I just woke up. But the yiutube chug post channel of, *insert bad internet trend* isn't worth this.
| |
His voice basically sounds the same. It's been on the raspy, course side of things since early in their career. The problem with this song is garbage production.
| |
I agree with all of you, but you really can't base an originally punk band on vocals or production. Lyrics, for sure. If you based some of the best punk bands in history on vocal sound and production, you'd throw away some real gems. But it's whatever, this is not something I would jam. If people like it, great, if people hate it, that's fine too. I have no reason to hate it. Congrats on being a multi-platinum band. I can't knock that.
| |
Boy oh boy, that was rough.
| |
TF? This sounds terrible.
| |
"you really can't base an originally punk band on vocals or production."
Gonna disagree with you on this one - there's a difference between 'bad production' and 'badly utilised production', and more often than not it's the band's actual performance/energy that makes up the difference.
You can use cheap/'bad' production to offer a more raw, stripped back sound, but if you aren't utilising it effectively or pairing it with an energetic performance that actually evokes a decent response from the listener, it isn't going to just magically sound good.
This song lacks energy, and the performance sounds bored.
| |
“Garageband can do better lol or just as good at least” this is so accurate, because this song sounds exactly like the stuff I used to make on GarageBand years ago 😭
| |
Why?
| |
I didn't nod, I was shaking my head the whole time. wtf happened to Tim's voice?
And @onionbubs or whoever else was wondering, there is 1 pick slide at 2:46
| |
Goddamn. Recently I was blasting Siren Song of the Counterculture in my car. This new song sounds like it was released by a cover band. Anyways, I'm gonna keep blasting their good albums which never get old to me
| |
