AND OF COURSE THEY CHOOSE THEIR MOST POPULAR SONG.
God, how difficult it is for a band to choose a deep cut?. I mean, alice in chains covered rush's tears and that's not their most popular song in 2112.
|
| |
bruh, how can you seriously complain they covered Stairway to Heaven when it was clearly a tribute to their friend and manager lol
|
| |
It was pretty cool. And it was very kind from them.
|
| |
Not trying to detract from how cool/nice this is but:
"Side B of the vinyl (Stairway to Nick John) features the same song performed live at John's funeral, recorded by Gojira's Joe Duplantier on his phone."
lol
|
| |
you guys some serious dickheads
|
| |
This video appeared in my YouTube recommendations yesterday, didn't know it was a recent cover and that it was a tribute to their manager.
Solid rendition.
|
| |
^That doesn't sound like love OR acceptance. I should clarify I just think it's funny they're pressing a phone recording. The act itself is awesome and a nice tribute.
|
| |
From what I recall, it was Nick Johns’ favorite song, so that’s why they did a cover for it.
|
| |
6:30 mixing fail
|
| |
Goddamn this is good

shut the fuck up lol sometimes it's hard to believe people commenting here are adults
|
| |
Really loved that they did this but I wish the vocals weren't so processed the whole time.
And really? Bitching about covering Stairway? C'mon, it's not like this is Crazy Train or Sweet Child. This is a difficult song to cover and yet still keep that vibe of the original. Mastodon succeeded.
|
| |
its not a mixing fail. this is ripped from someone’s vinyl copy and the record skips. happens again at 7:09
|
| |
rodrigoing
|
| |
This is killer.
|
| |
unremarkable tbh
|
| |
I picture Joe Duplantier recording Mastodon playing Stairway on his phone thinking to himself "fuck yeah this will make a great B side". Cool tribute.
|
| |
shut the fuck up, rodrigo.

How difficult is it for you to not act like an absolute heap of steaming garbage? Goddamn.
Also, this isn't an official upload. This article needs to be taken down.
|
| |
The audio is cut in several places, definitely not the best way to present this, otherwise beautiful cover. Brann absolutely killed it.
|
| |
lol rod
|
| |
"The audio is cut in several places, definitely not the best way to present this"
That's cos it's some random dude who uploaded it to youtube, not the band. This is, for now, a strictly physical release.
|
| |
Yeah, Sitar, agree. I was actually referring to the ripped audio. Hopefully we get some official streaming or download at some point.
|
| |
Ah gotcha. I hope so too cos I really dig it. It's straightforward while still being very Mastodon-y.
|
| |
Skip to solo. The rest is meh.
|
| |
A lovely tribute from the band.
|
| |
you mean skip to the YES A MASTODON GUITAR SOLO!!!
|
| |

Calm down my man, it's just an homage lol.
|
| |
Nice tribute and very moving. I'm very impressed. All we must buy this version to contribute to help the pancreatic cancer research.
|
| |
I saw the headline and was instantly filled with dread, but having actually read the news article in full (unlike some people, ahem Rodrigo) then I can only have good things to say. Nice gesture.
|
| |
Damn, that's so cool of them.
|
| |
Imagine being the guy who complains about song selection for a tribute.
Ain't bad. This rendition, I mean.
|
| |
No skips + the live B side version

|
| |
really nice cover
|
| |
Yeah they definitely did it justice. A little straightforward, but hey, if it ain't broke right?
|
| |
It pretty much sounds like the same thing, im not into it at all, but i realize what its about and that its not about me or the band and what they could have done with it.
