Speaking to The New York Times alongside longtime business partner Jimmy Iovine, Dre compared the opposition to AI with the initial resistance encountered by drum machines and synthesizers.
The rapper and producer explained that he uses AI to explore what the technology can do with music he has already created. He described it as a "new tool for creativity" rather than a replacement for the artist's own ideas.
Dre also delivered a more provocative assessment of the debate, stating that "the only people that see it as a threat are the people who have trouble creating."
Iovine expressed similarly strong support, suggesting that numerous producers are already using AI without publicly admitting it. He argued that placing the technology in the hands of talented musicians could lead to better records.
Their comments arrive amid continuing concerns over copyright, consent and artistic authenticity. Several music-industry organizations have introduced voluntary labels distinguishing AI-generated recordings from those on which the technology was used only as an assisting tool.
