Former Derrick Comedy member/singer/occasional rapper Donald Glover, a.k.a. Childish Gambino, released two new songs to streaming services today with no prior announcement. The Summer Pack EP, featuring R&B-style songs "Summertime Magic" and "Feels Like Summer", seems to be vaguely themed around summer and/or targeted at people who enjoy summertime things. Well didn't expect this. I'm pretty mixed on both tracks. They're fun summer songs no doubt.

I would probably take Feels Like Summer > Summertime Magic.

idk if anyone would agree but i’m not sure his voice is good enough for what he’s trying to do here. it worked on Awaken because it was so soulful and weird. This is just straight pop and nothing stands out enough to make it interesting, and his voice - while very good - just doesn’t stand out compared to his peers in this genre. pretty disappointed with these releases and the last 2 singles

yeah vocal performances are a 5/10 but the production / vibes make this a 6 or 7/10 imo. def surprised he kinda went back to the whole Kauai sound but even poppier

This is America really wasn't plagiarized. Different beat, different chord progression. Only similarity is using triplets, which almost every pop rapper is using these days and lyrics about violence in America which is also super common. Only semi questionable thing is the usage of tribal vocals but kanye's been doing that for a while.

He has a few distinct styles that are very different from each other, I want to see him mix them together. This is America was probably the closest, it mixes rap with a few ideas from Awaken.

It fr sounds like a joke song. The choir is just bad and the lyrics are insubstantial af. The only thing the song had going for it was it’s almost satirical vibe of “this is the sound of America in our modern day and age” but that’s the part that was copied almost nearly verbatim from another song. The guitar at the beginning is cool but seems totally random and wouldn’t seem to fit in the song at all if it wasn’t for the video. The video was great don’t get me wrong but it 1000% carried the song from being essentially ignored by the mass public, you won’t be hearing the song any more in a year.

But yeah ur right that’s just my opinion, new songs are MUCH better
