That's one gross ass song
| |
That's one true ass comment
| |
sounds like a the song for a low-budget perfume commercial tryna emulate punk rock
| |
horrific!
| |
Sounds like someone who needs a slap
| |
this would be 10x better without the chorus
if it actually built into something it might be salvageable
| |
chorus sounds like a rejected black eyed peas track tbqh
taylor ain't fergie and i don't know why she would want to be
| |
That half-rapped vocals and the chorus are terrible. That Pitchfork review hit the nail on the head. "...reminds me more than anything of that endearingly hot-mess period of nominally alternative “not like other girls” pop circa 2004."
Ugh.
| |
she ain't fergie [2]
| |
fuck fuck fuck fuck this song
not a single memorable thing about it and yet it still manages to be shockingly bad
| |
hohoho very no thank you. I'll stick with 1989.
| |
said it on the 1989 thread: people here will find a way to frame the new album as 'good' somehow anyway
| |
"Oh, I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Cuz she's dead!" is worse than the chorus.
| |
much much worse
| |
The cringe is painful
| |
She's making a metal record.
Also, on a more serious note, why do people allow others to affect them so much that they abandon what made them popular and good in the first place? She basically had an emotional reaction to various things and now she sucks even worse. So whoever pissed her off ( I don't follow this shit so I don't know) that person basically won and she lost .
| |
I like it lol. Love that Gemma Collins meme too
| |
if u think her career moves aren't painstakingly calculated by a pr team, then u need to check more pop
| |
I was kinda diggin it until the chorus
Lyrics are so bad though
| |
look out for my now infamous comment on the video
| |
I called it from a mile away that this would be her "bad girl" album (like Sheeran's most recent trainwreck of an album), and I knew it would be corny...but I didn't realize it would be THIS corny.
| |
Taylor Swift being bad? I'm aghast!
She always sucked, even if this is low even for her.
| |
It didn't work, whatever this was. She has always profited from controversy but I don't know if making a terrible album is the kind of controversy she intended.
| |
the "look what you made me do" part is outrageously monotone and annoying. a couple other parts blew too. other than that, i'm alright with it. would be hilarious if she started screaming and shit, but there's no possibility. but would be hilarious and great if a pop star legit just dropped the act and gave a fuck you 1 time to their pop fan base instead of just the bad girl angsty slut thing which has happened more than a few times.
| |
Song is obviously directed at Kanye... and wow the release date of this album just so happens to be on the 10th anniversary of Kanye's mom's death. Coincidence?
| |
It's like Meghan Trainor's Me Too and anything by Halsey had an incestuous child
| |
Shake it off pissed me off super hard when it was released, but this just makes me want to not live anymore
| |
awful song
| |
I'm amazed she managed to say the same line in the chorus four times. It started to feel like when you repeat the same word enough times that it doesn't sound like the word anymore.
| |
I'd rather sign up for SAW puzzles than listen to this again
| |
And on that day, every Taylor Swift fan on sputnikmusic.com collectively threw their merchandise out the window, blotting out the sun and causing multiple automobile accidents in the process. Cd's, ridiculously expensive records, body pillows, and more all littered the streets of suburbia. Not since the solar eclipse has our land been enveloped by shadows to such a degree
| |
The chorus keeps getting worse and worse. The verses aren't actually that bad, but dammit the chorus is insufferable. Please let the rest of the album be better.
| |
sounds like something muse would put out
| |
"She always sucked, even if this is low even for her"
^ this.
| |
"sounds like something muse would put out"
Agreed man I hear a lot of Plug In Baby in this
| |
you write taylor swift lyrics in birthday cards
| |
this is better than most muse material, but yea
| |
I found funny that a lot of pop fans and people here in Latin America (I know most of you are American or European, but I don't know if something like this happened in your home countries) were expecting and saying this song would dethrone ''Despacito'' and take it out of the charts. The expectation was high.
The lie of the year? Who knows...
| |
despacito is fucking trash
| |
literally what
| |
Weird song.
| |
As I said before, I know most of you are American or European. Sorry for saying Hispanic things that maybe you'll not understand.
Here in Mexico, and Latin America in general, Despacito (and reggaeton) is even more inescapable.
| |
i'm hispanic, and the fact makes it even more confusing
| |
Despacito is great, this song is an abomination
| |
I detest both with a passion
| |
haha suck it kanye's dead mom
for real though, I hate most pop music and I still think this is one of the worst pop singles in recent history
| |
I've never liked her, or the genres she exists in, but this is just horrific. With her old stuff I could see the appeal even if it wasn't for me. This was just gross.
| |
@Asdfp277 The hype was mostly in fanpages, pop pages and those kinds of things. Not here or in other review sites.
| |
Nine Inch Nails instrumental with discount Melanie Martinez lyrics
| |
haha this is so bad
| |
Without that absurdly terrible chorus and the shit lyrics I'd enjoy this.
| |
What is it that she was made to do? Like what the fuck?
| |
"chorus sounds like a rejected black eyed peas track tbqh"
AHHH THAT'S EXACTLY IT. I hate choruses that are just the same line repeated.
| |
i thought fantano was joking when he said the guys that made "too sexy for my shirt" helped make this lol, it's literally an off brand version of that song.
| |
It's just an absolute monstrosity
| |
Hoping this will somehow make sense inside the album, like Shake It Off did (kinda).
| |
She's trying to make out like she finally snapped on the industry, as if this hasn't been calculated by a marketing team to make sure it's okay for release. How embarrassing
| |
Shake It Off was quirky and fun enough out of context to work on its own, though; this song's just baaaad.
| |
hey hey hey
my ex man
this sick beat
unforgivable
| |
Lyrical genius right there...
| |
Well, I mean, the terrible Shake It Off rapping made sense within the self awareness theme of 1989. I think the monotony and headache inducing chorus here might also make sense with the jaded and paranoia theme she seems to be going for.
| |
So Right Said Fred are on the songwriting credits for this
| |
She can be bad to me all she wants
But as for her music, she should stick to her bread and butter
| |
the verses were typical meh as I'd expect from here
but that chorus holy shit the cringe
I mean the pre-chorus was kind of catchy at least I guess
Fuck this
| |
Maybe this song is a great example of the power of lowered expectations, I don't know, but I... kinda like it? It confused me at first, but strangely my impression has improved a bit with subsequent listens. It's very basic and trendy, even more than her other songs, and the lyrics suck, that's a fact, but the song has something that seems attractive to me. I don't know what it is, though. Guilty pleasures, I guess...
Even so, that doesn't change the fact that this year is already baptized as the ''Despacito'' year.
| |
@NessieKV that may very well be the case but it doesn't make either songs good
| |
Agreed, yeah. Not on their own anyway.
| |
I wish she'd go back to that We Are Never Getting Back Together attitude, but Taylor never does what I want. I also wish she'd go poor and make friends with talented people for once.
| |
Only song of hers I ever somewhat enjoyed was I Knew You Were Trouble but even then it always felt like more of a guilty pleasure than a legitimately good song
| |
Ngl I never really liked any of her songs, I just find her irritating
| |
HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT ABOUT AMERICA'S SWEETHEART
| |
Everyone knows America's sweetheart is the Donald, nobody would ever say anything against him.
| |
Our song was cute and dumb even with her annoying country twang, shake it off was even kind of fun even if lyrically it reminded me of why she's an abominable person.
| |
But this? Haha, no.
| |
@blackwaterpark Anal Fuck the Donald gently with a chainsaw
This song makes me hate music and life itself.
| |
what's wrong with shake it offs lyrics?
| |
Jesus Christ, the mess from doing that would be horrendous
| |
Haha she is indeed an abominable person Dede
| |
1989 is still a total jam.
This? ...yikes.
| |
Yeah this is bad
Expect it to be played 50 times a day on most radio stations.
| |
Also the line "I don't trust nobody and nobody trust me" is ripped straight off of a Limp Bizkit song
| |
as much as i hate her and this god awful bad bitch persona i can't help but say that the first chorus and pre-chorus are pretty catchy
| |
how can u find this catchy lol
| |
"Oh, I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Cuz she's dead!"
lmao anything to stay relevant
| |
everything about this sucks
| |
kinda entertaining but bad
| |
i'm actually ashamed to admit that the new song is not a hard 1
| |
I like it a lot more than I liked Shake It Off ahead of 1989's release
Count me as hyped
| |
not good
| |
Its weird seeing the rise and fall of Taylor Swift right in front of me since I was in middle school
| |
the new cher song is so much better. go listen to it. have some self respect
| |
has taylor been hanging out with fergie and will i am? :-/ I want guitars
| |
She needs to quit
| |
Sowing man how can you defend this? Too much poptimism, eh?
Lol don't get mad i'm busting your balls.
| |
Song is not very wavy
| |
This is better than 90% of 1989
| |
I liked this. I like it. The anticlimactic chorus is a neat risk.
| |
Fergie/Black Eyed Peas mixed with Gwen Stefani. What the fuck am I even listening to?
| |
maybe someone should resurrect the old Taylor cause at least she could write songs.
| |
The whole CAN'T PICK UP THE PHONE, THE OLD TAYLOR IS DEAD thing is so cringey.
Never liked this bitch though. I sort of appreciate her old songwriting though, even if her goody-two-shoes persona was obnoxious at best
| |
She sounds like as if she's about to die.
| |
That was painful to listen to
| |
"This is better than 90% of 1989"
>
| |
This is the worst iteration of her yet but I'm genuinely interested in cartoon villain Swift. Like intentional or not this is hilarious
| |
It's Lana del Rey mixed with Fergie.
| |
piece of shit song is a piece of shit
| |
It's not the worst thing to ever come out.
| |
closer to the worst than it is to the best that's for sure
| |
At least it doesn't have a trap beat.
| |
first few listens, I really enjoyed this. even with the cringey chorus I still found some positives I really liked. but after seeing the scam with Ticketmaster, I am just really waiting for her to completely crash and burn.
| |
@xAshtrayux misogeny kinda invalidates your entire criticism, in case you weren't aware of that effect
| |
this would be 10x better without the chorus [2]
| |
Quite possibly the worst chorus in the last 3 decades
| |
50iL - I think that award is still held by Rihanna's "Work".
| |
I think they're both equally as bad
| |
It's awful but this still takes it for me
| |
worst song of the year
| |
Kinda digging the video itself though lol
| |
cringey SHITE
| |
Man, the 80s really are back...
| |
What is this horrorcore trash
| |
@NessieKV it's not how you spell misogyny. Nice attempt at grasping at feminist straws.
It's not ~internalised misogyny~ when I dislike Taylor Swift for being an obnoxious and calculated product of a musician.
| |
women are exempt from criticism in 2017 you bigot
| |
the video is where the songs message lies. i''m feeling Taylor Swift as a pop star heel though
| |
"@NessieKV it's not how you spell misogyny. Nice attempt at grasping at feminist straws.
It's not ~internalised misogyny~ when I dislike Taylor Swift for being an obnoxious and calculated product of a musician."
"women are exempt from criticism in 2017 you bigot"
Literally everyone has been ripping into the track/her career so clearly that wasn't the criticism, geniuses
| |
"Quite possibly the worst chorus in the last 3 decades"
"50iL - I think that award is still held by Rihanna's "Work"."
"I think they're both equally as bad"
"It's awful but this still takes it for me"
Yall can go step on a lego
| |
work is a good song tho, not this.
also we are never getting back together might be her worst song. as in, worse than this.
| |
this is a really bad song. thats all i can contribute to the discussion.
| |
So glad for all this discussion on one of my articles
Even if I disagree with basically everyone here
| |
I'm still trying to understand what exactly it is that she did that she feels is worth mentioning so much
| |
what she 'did' is this song, crashing her career with no survivors
| |
I heard this due to a friend listening to the radio on a drive. I cannot unhear this assault on my ear holes.
| |
Taylor Swift releases a terrible song that portrays her as the victim. So nothing new really.
| |
This makes me extremely uncomfortable.
If I was in a car that was playing this with the windows down I'd have a conniption
| |
At least it looks like Taylor actually has tits for once in the video
| |
JAV i fear that very scenario lol
| |
@xAshtrayux I'm actually a Brazilian with self taught English so I really appreciate your spelling feedback. Who has money for English schools, right?
| |
Bruh your written English is impeccable
| |
Well that got oddly specific and sexist
| |
"Bruh your written English is impeccable" - hey thanks! I owe it all to music.
"Typical female tactic to get what they want/have someone feel sorry for them." - typical brainless (non-)argument that fits much better into places other than in a website dedicated to sharing KNOWLEDGE on musical art.
| |
PS: I'm reporting all sexist comments. Hopefully there are women in the moderation, or at least non violent men.
| |
lol
| |
Song is terrible but can't be that surprised, Tswift makes some of the worst, most uninspired music ever. Gonna be on the radio 12 times a day for the next year and a half.
| |
this is gonna sell more copies in a day than I will in my life
| |
looks like her plan is working
| |
Greatest heel turn of the year
| |
I actually kinda like it.................
| |
I cannot stand this song.
The lyrics are very self-aware which Taylor has always managed to turn into something fun or lighthearted (shake it off) yet this so obviously a shot at her haters and comes off as kind of edgy.
The chorus, which is usually her strength given she is a pop artist, is the weakest part of the song.
I liked that she always had an awareness of what people thought of her but it never seeped into her songs in this sort of way. Even the album title "Reputation" is a reference to what the public/others think of her.
Hoping this new album isn't just her being like "yeah, I don't even care what u all think. Here are 10 songs about what u all think"
| |
Writing a pop song based around a phrase abusers use to justify their actions went about as well as expected here.
| |
I think we're starting to look a little too deeply into it here
Also how is this the number one song on spotify ugh this thing is going to be everywhere
| |
It's Taylor Swift, it was always going to be everywhere unfortunately.
| |
Have you ever been to America? People are mad dumb here. I mean look at our president.
| |
lol why are u all so dumb over there
| |
cause of the chemicals in the water!
| |
i thought it just turned frogs gay
| |
but if u buy the virility supplement u will be saved, also buy the water filter too just to be safe....and the brain formula...
| |
I’m.. too sexy for my shirt
Too sexy for my shirt...
How has no one else heard this yet?
| |
it's been mentioned quite a few times actually lol
| |
Melon mentioned it
| |
ive been out of the loop for a while
| |
isn't that chorus a rip off of something else that came out not so long ago, just a spoken word almost silent part or whatever
| |
Still can't believe I got to see Taylor Swift go full-blown Shadow the Hedgehog on us
In few years, her fanbase is gonna agree to pretend this era never happened (assuming they are not stuck in a permanent Everything-TS-Does-Is-Godly mode, though)
| |
"lol why are u all so dumb over there"
Religion interfering with proper education, rich school districts getting better teachers, resources and funding, but there's lots of other facets as well.
So glad I haven't had to listen to this song again.
| |
Oh, good. It's been about time and now she's finally... wait, you mean she changed her style... oh well then...
| |
Don't know which is worse, this or "Swish Swish"...
| |
"rich school districts getting better teachers, resources and funding"
anything else would be dirty, rotten socialism
murrca
| |
it's all brain washing anyway
| |
"Don't know which is worse, this or "Swish Swish"..."
Swish Swish is worse easily.
| |
"'lol why are u all so dumb over there'
Religion interfering with proper education, rich school districts getting better teachers, resources and funding, but there's lots of other facets as well."
I don't think religion interferes with education at all since religion isn't taught in schools...
| |
Lol if only that was true. Not to mention parents opting their children out of science based classes due to religious objections, sex ed, evolution etc. There is no separation of church and state here.
| |
Several metal videos I've watched lately have had this as the next video in the auto playlists generated by YouTube. I turn that shit off so it doesn't load it, but I find that incredibly suspicious.
| |
modern day payola
| |
yup and that's probably part of what pushed it to number 1. Pay for it to show up in EVERY shuffle list or autoplaylist so that people who aren't aware of it (they've fallen asleep or left the room for 5 minutes or something) generate views of the track and give it hits towards chart position.
| |
queen of mediocrity
| |
don't bring Queen Carly into this trainwreck
| |
i remember an article called "Taylor: Queen of the Gays" or something like that and i was so insulted
| |
Why?
| |
no way in hell is Taylor Swift the "queen of gays", even if there was such a thing. Even Katy Perry would have a better chance
| |
I Always thought Madonna or Lady Gaga was.
Gay dudes here love Kylie as well.
| |
that's cuz she rules lol, i recommend her
| |
She’s an Aussie classic, of course I rate.
| |
So did they ever have a funeral?
| |
I hope not because tickets would've been like 200$
| |
