My Heart to Joy Call It Quits

2011-02-16 by SeaAnemone | 48 Comments
Up-and-coming post-hardcore band My Heart to Joy have decided to split up, according to news from their label, Topshelf Records. The band had this to say about the situation:

"Everything comes with an expiration date. Your closest friends, the price of gasoline, the convenience store at the end of your street - all facets of life are subject to change at some point, but it’s this limit that makes our experiences so undeniably precious. The past has been an incredible pleasure and in a short time this band will no longer be around. Concern yourself with something more fulfilling, or at least go home and get some rest. It could do us all some good."

Lol, I submitted a news article about this 2 days ago, I dunno why this one got put up instead. Ah well, whatever.
Still, it sucks that they split. So many great bands are splitting up or disbanding so far this year.

I bet this band wasn't even "post-hardcore" - just more abuse on the genre tag.

if anything, they were one of the bands restoring the quality of "post-hardcore." listen to their music before you say some ignorant shit like that.

these guys were easily the one of the most refreshing post-hardcore bands around, definitely don't sound like other bands under the tag. While the riffs and song structures are influenced by old post-hardcore, the sort of groove and passion the band retains is a lot more influenced by a lot of the emo bands they played live with.

if you're interested, a bunch of the band members from mhtj are now in a really great group called "The World Is A Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid To Die", have a couple EP's out, arguably better than their previous band.

thanks Eno, gonna check those out.
also, Topshelf Records' 5th anniversary today and they're giving away some albums, so people should look into that.

I fucking love My Heart to Joy. They're a lot more midwest emo than anything, but really interesting.

but I knew these guys when they were My Heart to Joy to the Sound of something. I forget, but it was a much longer band name and they released a really good EP.

I meant I fucking love The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die, just had MHTJ on the mind

it's just the lead guitarist who's in TWIABP, MHTJ's old drummer quit a couple months back and this dude who's kind of a veteran in the CT indie/punk scene filled in for him, and he joined TWIABP around the same time because they were going through some restructuring as well.

and yeah they're definitely emo

if you listen to their Heavenly Bodies EP they released before they shortened their name it's super emo, and with the name change they got a bit more midwestern

It pisses me off when I don't know about a Post-Hardcore band, then they up and fucking split up
before I can like them and be upset.
