Against Me! Lose Drummer

2009-06-09 by Athom EMERITUS | 11 Comments
Against Me! have parted ways with long time drummer Warren Oakes. Oakes made the following statement on the band's official myspace page:

"I've spent the past 8 years making beautiful music with my best friends and sharing it with amazing people all over the world. I've had the honor and privilege of traveling with the most dedicated road dogs on the planet and sharing the stage with the greatest bands. I have been embraced by so many with such graciousness and hospitality and love. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make the dream a reality, especially Tom, James and Andrew. I've had the time of my life, and I owe it all to you."

The news comes after singer/guitarist Tom Gabel mentioned booting Oakes on his blog.

"We told Warren this afternoon that we are going to look for a new drummer. Andrew, James and I made the decision a couple days ago over lunch. I told them that I didn't want to play music with Warren anymore. They both agreed that this was a necessary step, it's been a long time coming. Warren's heart hasn't been in this for a while now."

Oakes has played on all Against Me! recordings from Reinventing Axl Rose onward. Last month he opened the Mexican restaurant Boca Fiesta in Gainesville, FL.

This is sad...
Then again, I lost interest in Against Me! after New Wave because of the suckage it brought forth.

He seems like he was super gracious in that statement, but the way they booted him seems so blunt and heartless.

saw them in 2006 in san antonio and the drummer was great until he walked offstage a song early and didn't return. it was odd.

warren really brought a lot of energy to the early recordings, but he seems to have slacked off on new wave, all boring mid tempo songs.

or maybe thats the songwriter, gabel's, fault.
