Only gonna listen to about a third then listen to the rest when I buy the album.

|
| |
wtf rolling stone
|
| |
They just announced Franz Ferdinand as one of the support acts for their U.S tour.
Odd combination.
|
| |
Yeah, Rolling Stone is a toliet rag.
|
| |
I hits a sore spot. =)
|
| |
21 guns is pretty decent
the lyrics are just terrible though
and i'm pretty sure I heard the theme to full house somewhere in there towards the end
|
| |
I know it's not as "alternative" to say this, but this album really isn't that bad. Some filler here and there, which is honestly expected with 17 or 18 songs, but there's a lot of great stuff on here I won't lie.
|
| |
I can't contain my curiosity. I'm not gonna lie.
|
| |
running thru one time, only Peacemaker and Horseshoes & Handgrenades catch my attention at all...
god his lyrics have gotten bad over the last few albums
|
| |
Listened to bits and pieces, and it will probably be a fun listen however it turns out.
Also, I think Know Your Enemy is pretty cool, regardless of what everyone's been saying
|
| |
VIOLENCE IS THE ENERGY!!!!
AGAINST THE ENEMY!!!!!
VIOLENCE IS THE ENERGY!!!!

Raise your hands now to testify

hahahahaha

Like a dog that's been sodomized
That IS pretty terrible
|
| |
full quality rips of this album have just appeared on the internetz
|
| |
I don't understand who they're catering to. Obviously their demographic is preadolescent boys and girls, but the content is not for them. (Though I'd argue that the content is for no one at all, given its quality.) There is not one memorable song on the album, as each one coalesces with the songs before and after into a pile of horse manure.
I swear Last Night On Earth is a huge ripoff of something, but I can't name it. There are others, too.
|
| |
this is not all that bad, haters be damned
|
| |
Damn those haters, Meatplow
|
| |
mind you its not that good either ;)

too long;didn't listen.
Well, I managed to get a quarter of the way through and it was exactly as I expected.

Meh,
It's way too long to hold my attention.
|
| |
Stand up! - all the white boys
Sit down! - all the black girls
:|
Anyone else a bit... confused over that?
|
| |
from the 4 songs i sat through, that was terrible.
|
| |
Sigh... Yeah, the lyrics are pretty bad.... But I like it. I don't know why.
|
| |
listened to couple of songs, seems too anthemic. It just is not Green Day. Almost reminds me of The Black Parade.
in other words, they're both crud.
|
| |
Verses on Horseshoes and Handgrenades sound like a freaking Vines song.
|
| |
do u have the time to listen to me whine
|
| |
Too long, but it isn't that bad. People has to stop thinking it is cool to hate on certain bands.
|

PEOPLE HAS TO START LIKING THE SAME MUSIC AS CESAR21 :O
|
| |
oh god it's even worse than American Idiot.
Wasnt that suprising though.
:/

PEOPLE HAS TO START LIKING THE SAME MUSIC AS CESAR21 :O
where is it? who said that? I can't find it, I must need your special eyes
|
| |
It's better than it will be given credit for but it's nothing outstanding.
|
| |
yeah it's not atrocious, i never said that, but the lyrics are. and it's just so generic.
the problem with american idiot was that it just didnt sound like green day.
the problem with this is that for the most part it sounds exactly like american idiot :/
|
| |
i think the concept is the sodomization of dogs
|
| |
Progression is a good thing people.
|
| |
you should know your all so into your fuckin prog metal haha suck a dick.
|
| |
yeah I better ease up on that prog
|
| |
this is progression it sounds exactly the same as AI but with some gay piano in it and i like piano but viva gl;oria and the other one with piano are gay.
and i hate prog metal too so that makes my opinion valid
|
| |
you right about that.
|
| |
might've overreacted a bit. Honestly havnt even heard it yet.that was moronic, it could be bad but you have to admit this is kind of a biased website.
|

they moved more arena rock which pisses me off.

"Sigh... Yeah, the lyrics are pretty bad.... But I like it. I don't know why"
I feel for this guy.
|
| |
Progression = long boring album by green day.
nah...
|
| |
Just relies on way too much melody (aka vocal harmony choruses) without having anything to do with any sort of emotion or depth. Not enough to hold my attention or to find enjoyable.
Which honestly at least I could enjoy some of AI.
|
| |
what, meatplow?
trust me, trebmal, this is not prejudice or bias or anything, long album is long and boring and most of all very, very predictable.
|
| |
This album reminds me of Insomniac, not musically but just by the sense that Dookie was a smash hit so Insomniac pretty much tried to recreate Dookie and failed, and this albums trying to recreate American Idiot and failing as well. Oh well i can be in the minority here and like it Nothing spectacular, nothing terrible.
|
| |
I don't see how anyone could possibly put this album down. I mean it's got great melodies, and is different to standard Green Day. The album concept is amazing, and the lyrics are kickass!
It's got loads of emotion. It's not boring at all. I can't believe people actually think its bad. It isn't very progressive but that's not what you expect from Green Day.
This album is worth 5/5 hands down!
|
| |
^ lololololololol
|
| |
i genuinely feel sorry for you because being impressed by this album especially to that extent indicates you've almost certainly never experienced brilliant music.
|
| |
aaaaaaaaaaand the lyrics are the worst thing ever.
|
| |
6/5 even, a phenomena of modern art.
|
| |
of all the usernames, you had to pick that one eh?
|
| |
i didn't really have any expectations going into this, but even then oh my god is this bad
|
| |
Insomniac pretty much tried to recreate Dookie and failed
They didn't set out to do that at all.
|
| |
I do listen to brilliant music. Some of the bands on my ipod include the likes of dragonforce, Avenged Sevenfolds later stuff, Bullet for my valentine, Enter Shikari, and Triviums new stuff. If you don't think thats good music then i don't know how your opinion can be valid
|
| |
Wasn't Insomniac written to get away from the Dookie style, kinda like Nirvana did with Incesticide?
Could be completely wrong though...
Lol @ Greenday89's last post. Not sure if it's genuine or an alt troll account.

Insomniac is pretty equal to Dookie, imo.
|
| |
^^ Is that for real?
|

Precisely, PhantomLimb. I feel it is an underrated album though there is some crap on it. To me Nimrod will always be my favourite Green Day album, there is a lot of excellent variation on there.

What's special about my name? This album is not my favourite, American Idiot is. I'm not trolling, i just really hate the way people dismiss it after hearing half of one song. How can you not appreciate this?
|
| |
Songs on here sound very Warningish. Parts of American Eulogy sound a lot like Deadbeat Holiday, and the chorus part of Viva La Gloria(Little Girl) sounds like Blood, Sex and Booze but with an awful chorus
|

because it would appear you've signed up to this website in the time it took for this thread to amass a few posts criticising it's subject, and it would appear you've made yourself a walking target with your username, defense of this album and namedropping several bands that are poorly regarded on sputnik in a pathetic attempt to stir up people to make a few negative comments towards you
what is the payoff? if you must do this thing, be more subtle
|
| |
If you think i am trolling, please suggest my "main" account that you think i have. How are those bands poorly regarded? Their music is great. I could listen to it all day. I've seen the comments on this site a couple of days ago on the news about 6 new green day songs. I never felt the need to create an account until i heard this album and saw the absurd criticism

It can easily be valid- those bands pretty much suck, almost everyone on Sputnik thinks so.

So basically you made an account to tell us all how Green Day are teh bestest band evar and if we dont tink so we r all n00bs.
|

Listened to the first "act" or whatever.....Boring! I need to erase this from both my head and history lol.
|
| |
I didn't say they were the best and i'd never NEVER use the word "bestest" but im just saying they shouldn't be put down like this when the music is good. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if they judge it on half a song its ridiculous
|
| |

Unless it is truly godawful, which it is.
|

this is ok
|
| |
That's exactly what im talking about. Have you listened to restless heart syndrome? It's very beatles like (at least the intro is) just modernized and it sounds amazing. That's the sort of thing i like from Green Day.
|

its not mind blowing..but its not shit either. its fun and entertaining. i like it :D

No.
|
| |
Liked American Idiot, afraid to listen to this though
|
| |
gonna rule
|
| |
I've given it a brief listen. A lot of the songs are interesting until the intro finishes and it fades into boring old Green Day.
They've obviously deluded themselves into thinking they've written generation- saving lyrics too.
Having said that, 'Murder City' is OK.This Message Edited On 05.08.09

I got bored during Act II. It did pick up a bit towards the end though, The Static Age was the best song by a long way imo.
|
| |
Listening...just the first few songs so far.
Viva la gloria is pretty good imo.
|
| |
meh, this is pretty boring. It's by no means terrible... just not very engaging. Plus the lyrics are just god-awful.
|
| |
oh god the rolling stone is retarded what the hell fuck that man
|
| |
tried listening to it again now that im a little more awake....music still boring...lyrics still bad...
|

We get by now that it's mostly boring/bad lyrics etc. lets ease up on those posts a bit to stop clutter? just a suggestion feel free to ignore me (W_T)
I really wish this had been better :/ not holding out the same hope for their next album if/when it happens.
|
| |
Last Night on Earth was a good piano ballad.... that's about it from Act I. This is way too long, 70 minutes is too long for a Green Day album.
|
| |
i love how the green day fan boys are all crying in joy.
the lost souls.
|
| |
I'm sure this album sucks.
|
| |
not going to listen only because i dont have any bullets to lodge into my brain after listening to it
|
| |
Well I am past the first part and it's kinda cool. I haven't really listened to the lyrics though, so I don't know how horrid they apparently are.
|
| |
Whose to claim the negative review?
|
| |
I'm giving it a proper listen now, this really is better then some people are giving it credit for. I like it.
|
| |
The worst part is that 14yr old boys and girls everywhere, and even MTV, will be claiming that Billy Joe is a frickin' genius.
|
| |
well that is an annoyance, the term genius is abused so much these days anyway
|

I have dibs but it's gonna be a 3-3.5 tbh. it's pretty much anything I could want/expect from a green day album

it's funny because it's true sad.

The intro the viva la gloria is beautiful and the rest of the song is pure green day.
Come to think of it, the album reminds me of london calling by the clash. lots of songs that all sound different. This Message Edited On 05.09.09

Avenged Sevenfolds later stuff
troll failed here
|

Upon the first listen through, I was distinctly unimpressed. It's pretty much standard AI Green Day only not as good. BJ's vocals are quite good throughout but WOW, it's hard to ignore lyrics as bad/uninspired as some of the songs on this record. Green Day are trying too hard to be "anthemic" and "epic" and it works some of the time and utterly fails on a lot of it. Despite that, it's a good listen and nowhere near the worst album ever. It's hanging around a 3-3.5 for me

Billie Joe's mug makes this worth buying...
|
| |
I like the album, but is it just me or is there alot of things copied/ripped off from other songs?
The beginning of "Before the Lobotomy" sounds like the beginning of LB's remake of "Behind Blue Eyes".
Chorus of "!Viva La Gloria!" sounds like the verse's of Green Day's own "Letterbomb".
"Peacemaker" is basically "Misery" from "Warning".
Last one I've noticed so far, the chorus in "?Viva La Gloria?", listen to "Blood, Sex and Booze" 2:15 - 2:23. They are almost exactly alike.
Actually the entire album just sorta reeks of "Hey, that sounds like...".This Message Edited On 05.09.09

Pretty good, but nothing special imo. 3.5, maybe 4 at a push, but if I was gonna review it, definitely a 3.5. It seemed a bit directionless at times, overlong, wasn't the best they've done, but it was still Green Day - catchy, fun, in parts interesting. I've gotta say that both Viva La Glorias were two of the best songs Green Day have done. Will probably get this when it comes out, depending on the price.
|
| |
Most of the lyrics were awful, though.

i've heard prosthetic head and boulevard for broken dreams in there too

The more I listen to this CD the more I hear of exact riffs, bass lines and drumming. As awesome as "!Viva La Gloria!" is, it's just a mashup of "Letterbomb", "Prosthetic Head" and various other Green Day songs. The main riff IS "Letterbomb" and "Horseshoes and Handgrenades" is basically a "The Vines" song.
EDIT: Melody for "Static Age" is completely the same as "Church on Sunday" as is the riff. This Message Edited On 05.09.09

Know Your Enemy isn't actually on the album. I agree it is repetitive and shit. There are a couple of boring songs on the album. But most of all, it is pure genius. And i mean it when i say genius.
