Monkeys Set To Break Records

2006-01-22 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 5 Comments
NME.com reports that the Arctic Monkeys' upcoming record could become the fastest-selling debut album of all time. The album, 'Whatever People Say I Am, I'm Not' is released in the UK on Monday, January 23. Britain's largest music retailer HMV reports that pre-orders suggest it's the most in-demand debut album since Oasis' 1994 debut 'Definitely Maybe.'

Chart expter Gennaro Castaldo claims the album could exceed 200,000 copies sold in its first week. "We might be entering the Chinese Year of the dog, but as far as the Music Industry is concerned 2006 is very much the 'year of the monkey'. We haven't seen this level of excitement for a new artist since the Britpop-heralding arrival of Oasis more than 10 years ago.

"There has been a great vibe around the Arctic Monkeys for quite a few months now, but it usually takes much longer for a band to develop mainstream appeal and the commercial success that comes with it. The Arctic Monkeys seem to have managed this in just one leap - it's amazing how much impact they have had in such a short time."

The band's second single, 'When the Sun Goes Down', looks set to go to Number One this Sunday (January 22).

dont, its all hype, there are afr better bands out there than these.
The redord company have just spent millions on advertisment, thats all, it could have happened to any band out there.
For example when oasis released ther new album there was posteres everywhere, and i live in north wales, so everyone hears about it, its the same with the artic monkeys.
also, i saw them at leeds this year, and they were shite.

The label who signed them sure won't regret this 'hype'..

"I bet the owner don't care bout money anymore."
