Phantom Planet Break Up 2008-11-29 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 14 Comments | California power pop group Phantom Planet have gone on indefinite hiatus.
Wrote the band in a statement: "This could be the most difficult piece of news we have ever had to post. Sadly, Phantom Planet will be playing our last show, December 12, at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, the same venue that we played our very first live all ages gig, back in 1994.
"We have had an amazing time playing together for 15 years, but we have officially decided to go on hiatus, and will not be playing any more live shows or making any new records, indefinitely. There is so much more to write, but at this time, we just want to say thank you, to everyone, for their support, friendship, inspiration, attendance, and love."
The band released their fourth and final album, Raise The Dead, in April.

Wow. Progress.
These are guys that did that
"Driving in the sun, looking out for number 1, califronia here we come" thing right
That was in my head through the whole of Year 9 [10th grade]

It's sad that they're going on an indefinite hiatus, it sounded pretty set in stone on Darren's myspace when he listed the paths that each member will probably take now that they are going solo.
Phantom Planet's music seems to appeal to listeners who like a unique, real, and tasteful sound to music. I hope they reunite one day in the future, truly. They are, needless to say, a major asset to the modern day alternative rock/indie music scene and they could do even more great things. They had more then just a "few great songs" if you took the time to listen, by the way.

| | | I didn't even know these guys were still around. I own 'The Guest' and it's not a bad album but I wont be losing any sleep over this.
| | | I'm not sure why everyone's saying one of the best live shows, I guess Phantom Planet were way different when they saw them or something. When I saw them with Jack's Mannequin they were pretty much a waste of time.
