Cornell Not Joining Led Zep

Former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has quashed rumours that he might be filling in lead singer duties on the recently announced Led Zeppelin tour.

The legendary British outfit has confirmed they’ll tour in 2009, following their one-off gig in London back in December 2007 – but they’ll do so without frontman Robert Plant. Plant has stated that he’s not interested in reforming with the “Kashmir” legends, and is instead concentrating on touring with country singer Alison Krauss following the successful pairing of the duo on the LP Raising Sand.

“I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn’t to say I won’t be,” Cornell confessed to MTV News. “I’ve heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it’s just an online rumour or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/ Alison Krauss tour.”

Other rumours as frontman possibilities include Jack White, Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen), Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge), and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, who recently joined the band for a jam session “for fun”.

God, that is either the most conceited quote I've ever read, or an epic sarcasm fail.

It looks like the odds for this position will have to be re-arranged a little.

Second that Thank God...Cornell's decent but can anyone really hear his voice with all Zepp's classics? I still fail to understand this rumour trend of barrotone/deeper voiced vocalists replacing the higher-ranged Plant...either the rumour mill's running wild with this one or Led Zeppelin is setting themselves up for an epic failure.

Cornell does do a great cover of "Thank You" but I don't think he would really fit well.

I'm still saying that they should get Chris Robinson. The Black Crowes did a show with Jimmy Page playing a shit load of classic Zeppelin and there's some videos on youtube. I was listening to the video then I started doing something else and I forgot it was Chris Robinson singing I thought I was hearing Plant.

I'm probably gonna get flamed, but I think Dave Grohl would be quite a good choice for this...

Glad it's not Cornell. I'd like to see Cornell fronting Velvet Revolver, tbh, but I doubt it'll happen.

Agree with spamue1G. Cornell needs to join up with someone, cos his solo stuff is shit, esp the new stuff with Timberland.

His voice is far past its best, but its still pretty good.

that comment isn't too far off, listening to the anatomy of (and obviously bicycle race) proves that tommy could step into a classic rock role.
what is impossible, however, is for anyone to really fill plant's shoes on stage..
maybe claudio, ugghh

Chris is my favorite singer ever, but this would've been a weird combo. The man needs a band though...
Maybe after his entertaining musical mid-life crisis passes we'll get some good shit from him. Maybe.

I know the comment isn't too far off. I'm the biggest BTBAM/Tommy fan ever (although his side projects and clothing line sucks ass), I was just commenting on how much Altmer hates BTBAM and Tommy's voice especially.

Which is why Altmer fails so hard.

AliW - I do really hope Cornell starts with the rock again. His only decent solo work was Euphoria Morning (and that was really good, any surprise that it wasn't pop?). I just think, well, Velvet Revolver and Cornell would be a perfect fit. If not, just anything but pop... please...

Tbh, in my opinion, Myles Kennedy is easily the best choice.
Chris Cornell rules but he wouldn't fit, Grohl isn't skilled enough, and Chris Robinson is too Faces-blues rather than Zep-blues.
