hopefully someone at Century Media reads this because the going price on eBay for Ulver's "The Trilogie" LP set is fucking ridiculous. I need a reissue.

if I owned a record player I'd buy vinyls more often. Especially since the place I go to for music specializes in vinyls

I bought a vinyl player a few months back and at first it seemed like a bit of a risk. But when you hear it, and then listen to like a cd or off the pc, the cd/pc sounds so flat in contrast.

The new sigur ros LP just popped up on amazon for pre order so im totally hittting that asap. something like july 14th though

nah, vinyl records totally pwn cd's. honestly, cd's can be used as throwing discs of death, but have you ever seen one actually decapitate a person? i think not. a vinyl disc on the other hand....

I actually like the sound of vinyl better than CDs, and it's infinitely better than mp3s, which are awful sound quality. When I'm not playing mp3s I usually play vinyl instead. And they're usually around the same price as CDs too. You've just got to make sure they're clean, if it's clean, the sound is great.

I somehow doubt vinyl is going to make a comeback anymore than the horse-drawn carriage.

This isn't news my grampa has been telling me this for years lol, Ive never listened to anything on vinyl but Ive hear the quality is much better.

I honestly don't get the argument that vinyl is better. If you actually know how the recording process works, I don't see how you can claim that it's a superior medium. On top of that, there's generational loss and the gradual decay of quality as you play it. I really don't think the noise adds anything to the music unless the artist recording it consciously took that into account and wrote the music specifically with such conditions in mind.

Shit, if that's what you get off on, why aren't you crying for a return to dictaphone?

Part of me is convinced that the support for vinyl is born out of a sense that older = better. This Message Edited On 06.10.08

about half of my vinyls are black metal or 80's hardcore, regardless of the medium the production is gonna be crap.

Vinyls have been making a comeback now for awhile.

I have to love the music and artwork in order to buy a vinyl, I've done abit of flea shopping though, just finished my Cream and Foreigner collection.

Don't have any way to play vinyls, but I do buy them if I like the band and it has cool artwork.

vinyl making a comeback? sales are up but it's never gonna be where it was. can't imagine vinyl players becoming available at bestbuy or a vinyl player for your car

It's never going to be as mainstream as CDs, but at least think of it as... beta:VCR::vinyl:CD - in a way. Well, maybe not. Still, at least my dream would be that 75% of CDs around can reliably be found at general stores.

I have about 50 albums on vinyl. It's true, they sound better than cd's (unless you bought the album used and it's scratched to hell.)

It sounds like you've actually never even listened to a record before so don't make that kind of judgement. It IS better quality than CDs. It's obviously because you can't tell a difference.

I sort of see it the opposite way, I don't see how CDs are better in any way, except the convenience of portability. Bigger art, better sound, really just more opportunity for an artist to be creative with their product. If I need to take the music with me I can just slap that baby on a cassette.
