"She had secretly chatted to “emo” followers online all over the world, talking about death and the glamorisation of hanging and speaking about “the black parade” - a place where “emos” believe they go after they die"
might be the funniest thing ive ever read. This Message Edited On 05.09.08

I read this the other day and couldn't stop laughing.
I love it when the media fails at dissecting youth culture.
|
| |
where do they come up with this shit? i was reading an article about metal music blamed for high school shootings. you know whats REALLY interesting? the guy arrested for the VT shootings, the police expected to find that he listened to metal. instead he listened to Classic Soul music. morons can't see where the real issues are
|
| |
yeah, this is just ridiculous.
|
| |
They'd blame marilyn manson if he was still relevant, but since emo is popular, it MUST be the reason... dumbasses.
|
| |
lolol
|
| |
can we get an MCR fan in here to clear up a few things?
|
| |
holy shit
|
| |
If Ian MacKaye was dead, he'd be rolling in his grave.
|
| |
This is beyond a joke now, this is getting fucking ridiculous.
|
| |
If Ian MacKaye was dead, he'd be rolling in his grave.
|
| |
What's ridiculous is that I read elsewhere that this young girl told her parents she was going to commit suicide. So whose f*cking fault was it, f*cking My Chemical Romance (a band that has even done shows for an anti-suicide organization) or the criminally neglectful parents?
|
| |
owait it wasn't the emo it was videogames that killed her
|
| |
or marilyn. or eminem. or the matrix.
|
| |
why, there must be someone to blame. you just have to look hard enough.
|
| |
someguest, that's ignorant and not true. it's the people in the life of the kid's fault. the parents who don't reach out, their peers who continually put them down and make them feel like sh*t.
|
| |
It's still ultimately "the act of intentionally terminating one's own life". There are other factors at work obviously but yeah.
|
| |
lol
|
| |
yeah but you can't call the kid stupid because of it. if it were an adult who committed suicide, that's a different story. but kids, if their told one thing by their peers around them for long enough, they start to believe it. ya know? i can't see where you can blame a kid for believing what everyone around him/her are calling them. it's a social problem that people won't accept as truth, because it's THEIR kids who are to blame and their parenting; it's not the music
|
| |
I didn't realize she was only 13 but I wasn't implying it's all her fault.
Seriously though, "I want to kill myself" and her parents say "don't be silly?". Good going.
|
| |
oh i understand. it was someguest who ignorantly said "The only one that should be blamed is the stupid kid."
|
| |
In the beginning God created the Black Parade and the sxedge.
|
| |
Seriously though, "I want to kill myself" and her parents say "don't be silly?". Good going.
I would have killed myself too if my parents were so retarded that they had such a "you're so dumb when you're depressed, we should get pictures!" reaction.
|
| |
seriously if european kids believe in the black parade i mean come on
is this really that big a surprise
ahahahahha
|
| |
speaking about “the black parade” - a place where “emos” believe they go after they die"
if this is true, that may be the funniest thing i've ever heard in my life.
|
| |
This is utterly pathetic and it brings my blood to a boil when the media posts "rationalizations" like these. If a kid commits a crime these days, it MUST be because they listen to (insert band name here) or because they play violent videogames.
|
| |
this isnt even worth getting mad over. its just hilarious.
|
| |
a kid died because no one got her help or even just mad her realize that dieing is not glamorous, im sure some bands didnt help but that is no way to blame. the black parade part is a bit funny but please have some respect. if you pray, just pray for her & her family.
|
| |
"The teenager, committed suicide after flippantly telling her parents, “I want to kill myself”, when she returned late from a friend’s house. They dismissed the comment and said “don’t be silly” but an hour later found her suspended an inch from the floor."
this literally made me lawl for 5min straight. hahaha imagine how the parents felt wehn they walked in on that. the only reaction they could possibly have is "oh fuck" hahahahah
|
| |
The only one that should be blamed is the stupid kid.
Piss off.
I wish I could see the humor in this retarded misinterpretation of everything, as is the media's forte, but these suicide stories hit too close to home for me. Also, whenever suicide comes up, you get these armchair psychology fuckheads acting like they know what they're talking about.
|
| |
Mom: "If your friends jumped off a cliff, would you do it"
Emo Kid: "__________"
Mom: Honey???????? Where did you go??????
Srsly tho. Anyone who is feeling depressed should get help, not drown their sorrows in whiny pop punk and slice their wrists. I've been diagnosed with both Depression and Severe Social Anxiety, among other things, never attempted slitting my wrists once. It's almost equally the fault of the Parent and Child (But an edge to the parents since they are responsible for their Children). The parent should at least attempt to get their child some help if he/she is contemplating suicide, or appears really depressed. The Child should understand that IT'S FUCKING SUICIDE!!!
I hate this Wannabe Emo Pop-Punk crap as much as the next guy, but Emo music being responsible is no different than saying Rap music is responsible for the demeaning of women and leads to murders, or Judas Priest makes kids kill themselves. It's a family issue, not a music issue. All opinions... But strong ones.

Emo, which stands for "emotional, is a youth movement based around dark music, dark clothing and a dark view of the world.
It was pioneered in America and emo followers adhere to a host of cult-like conventions to demonstrate dedication to this new wave of pop music and lifestyle.
The emo brand of music sounds much like indie or rock, but it takes its unique name from the emotional lyrics and melancholy themes.
One of the forerunners of this genre is the band My Chemical Romance from New Jersey, America.
While most fans simply enjoy the music and dress, others take their fascination to a sinister level.
They indulge in self-harming and become obsessed with death and suicide.
Some fine writing found here.
|
| |
people are so god damned stupid anymore it's not even funny
|
| |
"lol?"
That's honestly all I can say to this...
|
| |
Music is the bane of the depressed childrens existence apparently.
|
| |
FACT: Choice of music is a cause not a symptom of teenage depression...
"I was an innocent, playful and joyfilled child; then the mind-altering sinister opening chords of a pop-punk song about self-harm made me want to kill myself"
|
| |
silly emo's and their razor's
|
| |
I'm surprised no one's chimed in with "MCR isn't real emo! cirle takes the squre is!"
|
| |
my chemical romance is the devil
|
| |
lol, this just reminds me of that doctor who episode, voyage of the damned, featuring that ridiculous, but funny earth tour guide
"I shall be taking you to Old London Town, in the country of UK. Ruled over by Good King Wenceslas. Now human beings worship the great god, Santa, a creature with fearsome claws and his wife, Mary. And every Christmas Eve, the people of UK go to war with the country of Turkey. They then eat the Turkey people for Christmas dinner, like savages."
only this is funnier

well my take on it is this:
Music is where people can express their emotion, and put it somewhere. If someone is depressed, they already have a reason, so music can be barely blamed, but then if those unstable people begin listening to listen to these emo bands, that encourage being sad and insecure, it sure isn't helping anything, then when they begin to idolize bands like MCR, they start to think all the lyrics in these songs are real, and not entertainment. The more they listen to the music, and watch the music videos, it's true that they can get more depressed and unstable. But the problem is that these kids already had problems, the music would only put salt on the wounds.
Another example is gangster ghetto living hip hop loving kid. Now he is in an environment where there is violence and drugs all around him. Then he listens to gangster rap, that speaks
about violence and drug deals, eventually it will accelerate their want to commit crimes and sell drugs. But the music would affect nothing if there wasn't already a problem to begin with.
I play violent video games, I watch violent movies, I listen to some violent music, but since I have a decent family and friends, none of it affects me, and that is where the media has barely any case against this. This Message Edited On 05.10.08

Any more retarded, and they'd claim that "The Black Parade" is actually code name for a slave market and not an afterlife.
|
| |
well I'm just saying, most gang members aren't listening to indie, they begin to like violent rap music a lot, and then subconsciously adapt to the lyrics.
|
| |
i must say it sucks that my chemical romance is getting hit hard with this. i mean they are (from what i understand) against suicide.
however. a untrained monkey could tell you that "the black parade," is indeed, not a place where "emo's" go after death.

Maybe instead of blaming MCR for this girl's death, society should ask its self why artists (musical and otherwise) today are exploring themes of death and self-mutilation and suicide so much. Art is usually somewhat of a reflection of the atmosphere and circumstances in which it was created. It's meant to raise questions but so many people are too stupid to see that.
Is it really a coincidence that this whole death thing has pervaded our culture so much in the last 6 years or so? Why are things that kids in other generations might have found "gross" or "creepy" now seen as cool? Why are movies that once would have gotten an NC-17 rating are now making millions their first weekend at the box office? Why are songs about suicide reaching number one on music charts? Maybe it is just a coincidence. Maybe it's just the effective marketing. Probably not.
These are the types of things good art does. It gets you questioning things. But it's much easier for the news media-government complex to blame the music rather than realize its actions may have inspired its creation. This Message Edited On 05.10.08

everyone should read punknews' reaction to this. very well put
|
| |
It's horrible that the girl killed herself, but this is fucking ridiculous.
|
| |
ilikemusicthatsucks, that was an extremely intelligent comment. I'm sure society and the media have never looked at it that way.
|
| |
Well the government just has to put the blame someone else. They'll never accept that their the primary reason people are killing themselves, and porn is easily available, and people are getting shot on the street every day.
|
| |
black parade my fat hairy ass!!!
as a carcass fan, i know i'll be going to the great pathologist's slab in the sky!

What is 'emo'?

derekchewie11... errrr i wouldn't say the government is the reason. i put full blame on the child's peers and the child's parents
|
| |
^Yeah I agree and just for the record, I put the fault at the parents as well, I just think people should think more about why music and art these days has gotten so fixated with violence and such, and realize it may very well have to do with the fact that the U.S. is engaged in an unjust, bloody war built upon and sustained by fear of death. This Message Edited On 05.11.08

Since when did we lose the ability to decide things for ourselves? Are we suddenly robots?
|
| |
more sad than funny.
|
| |
Such a ridiculous article that I shall bump it.
|
| |
I hadn't heard about this.
If music makes you unstable enough to commit suicide, then you seriously should've sought help.
My friend killed himself freshman year. So, suicide is a heavy issue on me. Nonetheless, I feel like this story is just too retarded to suffice for anything other than an extremely unstable girl and the parents' refusal to take partial responsibility for their child's death.
|
| |
way too many people in too finite of a space. more suicides plz.
|
| |
lol random bump
|
| |
this story is so ridiculous. I am not an emo but seriously people need to calm the hell down and learn what it is all about before they start making wild assumptions and stereotypes about people and music.
|
| |
I went to a private Lutheran school last year. In my "health" class we watched a video that was like about how evil rock music was. I was sitting there watching it and thought," This is the gayest crap I've ever seen."
Then, they started talking about how this kid murdered his parents and there were like," He stabbed his mom and dad in their sleep while he was blasting this song."
Then they played Israel's Son by Silverchair. And I was like, wtf, I love that song and I don't go around murdering people.
Anyway, yeah, story's over. People are just retarded when they say music makes people do things. Yes, it can be an influence. No, it is not responsible for peoples' actions, people are responsible for what they do.
