good god, "letting you" is one of the most insanely intense NIN songs ever, "head down" is also really good, "lights in the sky" is a FANTASTIC piano song, "the four of us are dying" has one sexy ass beat, man this is a good album.

DON'T DO IT Zmev! IT'S NOT WORTH THE EFFORTS

trent reznor is teh man !
|
| |
This is great news!
|
| |
Discipline is much better in context...it's like now that we see the sound he's going for, it sounds pretty bad ass. I like the sudden change in sonic style towards the end. It's length is perfect, too. I'm enjoying the album so far.
It cracks me up how everyone talks shit about Reznor with the single releases, then when there's a free album people jump all over it.
|
| |
This WINS.
Shall review. Maybs.
|
| |
i'm assuming this is a bad place to start, but whatever.

Start here, if you must! This is badass.

Even though I don't really like Nine Inch Nails, I have to give Reznor props for releasing this much music in such little time for free. All of the people who credited him with being money hungry, got proved otherwise.
|
| |
Nine Inch Nails can no longer generate enough sales to compensate for making actual copies of their godawful cd, so instead you can now download it for the price its worth.
Kinda like Radiohead did with In Rainbows, but we all know how much this album's worth.
|
| |
Wow, your post is really dumb. Interscope begged NIN to stay on their label...they have one heck of a die-hard fanbases and would sell albums for the next 100 years on Interscope. They are making this an actual CD too.
This is really good, the only people who don't like it still can't get past The Downward Spiral. There is only one Downward Spiral, and there will only be one.
|
| |
Well said, moonlight.

I completly agree with Moonlight. The Downward Spiral is amazing but there was, and will only be, one. NIN moved on and are still making great albums.
The Slip didn't really excite me as much as it did when Ghosts came out, probs with Ghosts i forgot about the whole "2 weeks" thing and checked randomly a few days after it came out and there it was. i knew something was gonna happen this time. listening to it now (after trying to unsuccessfully download it like a million times). Is it Year Zero P2? maybe so...
It seems like its from a "oh my god the world is actually ending" perspective, where everyone's trying to account for all their sins but it's too late. wow, i'm hungry...
|
| |
*Hopes this is much better than ghosts*
|
| |
I don't know if I can handle all this NIN. I'm used to waiting 5-6 years.... Good shit.
|
| |
wow, i wasn't really expecting this to be for free. need to download.
|
| |
oh, another one ;)
hm, I don't get the link! still waiting for the e-mail..........

i've been waiting on the email for like an hour now, whats wrong!?

umm, moron, you do know ghosts 1-Iv generated over a million dollars in its first week right? over $700,000 in its first 2 days alone.
before you open your mouth to say ignorant bull shit makes sure you know what you're talking about first.
also, i agree with moonlight, as does the entire rabid nin fanbase(theres legions of us), all the casual nin fans keep wanting the downward spiral part 2, and they arent going to get, so they can either move on and enjoy what all us nin fanboys are enjoying, or they can stop listening to nin.
trent isnt making music for the random joe blows, hes making it for the die hard fanboys.
|
| |
are there vocals in this release?
|
| |
yes
|
| |
Yeah, this is a full-length "normal" NIN album. And it's pretty great.

what can you compare it to, like what nin release. i cant download on school computers

It's got the hooks of With Teeth with the musical style of The Fragile/Ghosts (dense backdrops/atmosphere). It's really good.
|
| |
fuck yes! i just downloaded this and im so god damn happy, ghosts weirded me out slightly but this is so good, 1,000,000 has elements of the hand that feeds and march of the pigs, its amazing.
|
| |
Besides the single, enjoyable so far. Awaiting Moonlight's "Shocking" review for this as well as his approval for me to say whether it sucks or not.
|
| |
i have no idea why Interscope would "beg" NIN to stay on the label. they are so generic and fucking boring it's not even funny.
NIN is a band for men who are in the early stages of a mid-life crisis and think by listening to NIN they are "COOL" or trying to live out the glory days and constantly tell themselves "I AM metal....I DO have culture!!!" But sorry, no matter how many times one says that to himself, it doesn't change the fact that this band DOES NOT CHANGE. NIN is pathetic excuse for "metal" fans who are too lazy or too heavily influenced by the "mainstream" that they find NIN easily accessible therefore try to convince themselves that it IS unique! No, sorry sir it is not...try looking somewhere else for quality music.
|

PAT.....YOURSELF.......ON....THE.....BACK!
ok yeah other than that i have no use arguing with any of you....you obviously are beyond help.
(Oh yeah and it's HAWTHORNE heights dickweed...learn to spell...oh that's right! i forgot......NIN fan.....sorry.)
|
| |
I suppose my sarcasm was either lost over the internet, or by some other kind of error.
Obviously, I don't give a shit about how much some company begged Nine Inch Nails to continue making some top 40 tracks so they can rake in some money.
And secondly, I apologize on not being properly informed on a band that I simply despise.
|
| |
Has anybody else noticed that 7 out of the 10 songs start with the drum beat and nothing else, and all the ones that don't have pretty much no drums at all anyway
|
| |
sn0manb0b what are we trying to argue with you about? cause Im fucking lost here.
If you think that all people who listen to NIN are all Metalheads then you are mistaken sir. I don't have long hair, I don't wear all black and I am not angsty at all.
But I listen to NIN, so I MUST BE A METAL LOVER!!!
NIN is not Metal so there is Mistake #1
I'm having A good life, I just got accepted in to a great college so I have a good life so that is mistake #2
I listen to NIN nails because it is good music, and as a musician I appreciate the musician ship that goes into these albums, and that is Mistake #3
So do us all a favor and PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS. Oh sorry your a moron.
PULL...YOUR...HEAD...OUT...OF...YOUR...ASS

Fuck you The_Flash!!!! you sly piece of shit. If you want him to pull his head out of his ass just say so and don't use all your condescending little word games
|
| |
ok if you would kindly direct your attention to the absurd comment above mine left by The_Flash!!!! I would like to point out some typical mistakes made by a "die-hard" NIN fan:
Mistake #1 - I have no idea where you are from, but I have never seen anyone, metalhead or not, wear all "back". Black, perhaps...yes I suppose so.
Mistake #2 - The repetition of "I have a good life" which raises the question, do you, in fact, have a good life sir?
Mistake #3 - Last time I checked musicianship was one word but I could be wrong. The ineveitable takeover of dimwitted people may be upon us and it may have been seperated into 2 words, you're the brilliant college student, you tell me.
With all these mistakes The_Flash!!!! I would double-check because your community college may have dumped your ass.
Back to the task at hand, I never said that all NIN fans were metalheads...I have absolutely no problem with metalheads considering I listen to my fair share of metal. I was simply stating that many NIN fans are people who know absolutely nothing about music and claim NIN as metal.
And please show me this "musician ship" you speak of because I just did a double-check of NIN music and I was hit in the face with the same bullshit as the first time I listened to their sorry excuse of an album.

sn0manb0b, everything you wrote is either a mediocre critique of his grammar/spelling when it is of course patently obvious what he's trying to say (not saying poor writing is good though) or an unfounded claim that NIN fans somehow believe NIN to be metal. I have never heard ANY person claim them to be metal in my entire life.
|
| |
Yep, cause last time I checked UCI was a community college.
Also, everyone makes a grammar mistake every once in a while so I would chill out and stop thinking your so superior because you can use spell check.
Everyone has their own opinions got it? I feel that Nine Inch Nails shows true musicianship for the sole reason that for most of the time Trent makes the music himself, with an occasional hand of some other people. but that is just my opinion, you might think otherwise.
I was wrong on coming down on you as you were wrong on coming down on other NIN fans as if we were stupid because of the music we listen to.
I don't like your music but did I ever criticize you about it? No. So just do us a favor and chill out, and we will too. You had to expect a little backfire when you came on this page now didn't you? This Message Edited On 05.05.08

I would consider NIN full of musicianship. He has some of the most original music and is very smart to make his music connect to most people, underground and mainstream alike. Considering that Nine Inch Nails songs all have a certain twinge that most people can only describe as "NIN sounding," convinces me that they truly have an original sound.
They also have been able to incorporate all different sounds into their music. Since "The Slip" is what we're talking about, let's take a look at the examples of Trent's musicianship that you say he doesn't have. (Although I sincerely doubt you have listened to it, or with an open opinion.)
1,000,000 is a song based around a very technical drumbeat mixed in with distorted guitar and Trent yell/sing style of vocal delivery. The chorus is quite interesting, then in the chorus brings in a few beat loops mixed in and blends everything well.
Discipline has a catchy rhythm to it with a loop beat overtop. Trent does a very interesting singing job in this song and the chorus is very enjoyable.
Lights In The Sky shows a mellon collie piano ballad with a twisted twinge to it. Trent belts it out, like in other of his ballads(Something I Can Never Have, The Great Below) but it has a darker feel to it like nothing else.
Corona Radiata is an amazing instrumental piece that is uneventful but still incredibly thoughtful. It captivates for its solid 7:34 length.
In closing, the few tracks I've mentioned are only examples of the other 100+ songs in the Nine Inch Nails discography. Trent has a flawless flexibility that allows him to shift to these different spectrums of music, from high energy angst driven songs to remorseful instrumentals. You also complain how all of his songs sound the same. It's true, every band needs to retain a certain sound that distinguishes the band, and NIN is now exception, but I can clearly notice several different features in every song he has released. You seem to clearly miss his musical integrity that Trent has built up over the past twenty years. I suggest you re-think what you have said and realize how wrong you truly are.
in other words, Nine Inch Nails has musicianship you cock! This Message Edited On 05.05.08This Message Edited On 05.05.08

This is album is sounding killer man. I wish I had a high-end speakers though. But these Sennheiser HD650 are making this album sound fucking sweet. Favorite song so far is Head Down.
|
| |
sn0manb0b. I don't think you have the right to criticize any msuic of any sort when one of your favorite bands is linkin park. Along with a slew of other shitty bands, it seems that your taste in music consists of lame cookie cutter bands.
|
| |
I love how this sn0manb0b clown claims NIN has no musical merit when he gives three Haste The Day albums 4.5's and loves him some Hawthorne Shites. Maybe musical subtlety isn't as immediate as a ripped-off Iron Maiden riff, some double-bass and mascara-dripping angst, but Reznor is musically a force to be reckoned with.
|
| |
Oh and in the second paragraph of sn0manb0b's response he spelled black "back", so that's a bit of a hypocritical statement that he launched there.
Ironic huh? I accidentally spell musicianship wrong, he criticizes me and he spells black wrong.
But thats okay cause' we all make spelling errors. This Message Edited On 05.05.08

oh yes! I understand now! How much great insight I get from all of the NIN fans! Now I realize that all the music I listen to is cookie-cutter! Dammit, now I may just hang myself! You know, because NIN is def. not cookie-cutter or predictable in any way, shape or form. Sorry that I've angered all the "hardcore" 40-year-olds. I'll remember to be more polite next time.
