Can you reveal what The Fall Of Troy’s new material will sound like?

I don’t know. That’s something that I’m kind of keeping a secret right now. Let’s say that it’s going to be going back to the avant-garde feel of the band that the first 2 records had. Manipulator was an experiment on how many different directions we could go on one record. This one is going to be a cohesive, challenging, and for lack of a better word, epic record from our band. It’s going to bring us to a whole new level. I think there is going to be lots of chaos in the music, but definitely I think the vocals are going to be stepped up – probably time 5 or 10.

How are you stepping up the vocals specifically?

We’re getting older. I think we’re kind of getting over screaming a little bit. I know I’ve become a lot more confident of a singer in the last year of my life. My girlfriend is a jazz singer from Stockholm, so being around her a lot in the last 6 months has really lifted me to a new level with singing. I’m trying to learn as much as I can from her about it. She went to the LA Music Academy for a year and was like a really high-ranked singer.

I’m with her whenever I can possibly be with her. Our lives are that of 2 touring musicians, so when we’re at home we end up talking about music most of the time. She’s really opened my eyes to a lot of things and how to use my voice and how to breathe.

Frank sings, too. Tim never sang. Tim was just a jet engine, and he was great for that. Frank has got a great scream, too. I mean, I’m not saying that we’re turning our back on screaming and that aspect of our band at all. I think the idea of song structure will be a little more prominent now. I think we’ll actually have things that will be able to get stuck in your head or maybe be around for 5 years instead of 5 minutes.

I’ve read a lot of different rumors about whether or not the next album will be a split EP. Is there any truth to that?

There’s been talk about so much shit in the last year and a half. We just decided, “Fuck it. We’re just going to write songs. Whatever ends up happening with these songs will end up happening.” We’re just kind of looking at it as we’re writing songs for an album, whatever that may end up being.

hopefully the vocals are stepped up because they've always been kinda awful. i've always borderline enjoyed these guys so im just waiting for them to put something out that makes me fully like them for more than five minutes.

ive always liked the vocals, but it would be cool to see Erak's vocals to step up a bit.

This shit sounds really awesome. I hope they don't ruin it with "Dark Trail" vocals. >_>

So there is going to be less/no screaming?

I honestly hope he can actually sing now, because I find it quite terrible.

123 to Coke and ToWhatEnd. If this turns out to be anything like they're saying it should rule.

TFOT use to be my favourite band sometime before Manipulator, so I'm hoping for a great return.
But if Matt Bayles couldn't do it then I don't think we should get our hopes up.

The problem with Thom is that he think he has all this range capabilities when in fact he's a below average vocalist.

He already mentioned that they were not turning their backs on that aspect of the band at all. Reading is fun! Looking forwards to this.

As I do enjoy these guys very much the vocals on manipulator were just ANNOYING at times. I did not enjoy the new direction with that album with the vocals at all. The singing is quite boring as well.

Also these guys are really arrogant in person. During recent live shows they really do a good job of snubbing the crowd and the lead guitarist basically acts like he's Jimi Hendrix. Really off turning.

i disagree on them being arrogant (except for their old bassist). Erak was one of the nicest guys i have ever met. the guy was cool enough to hang outside his van and invite people to come talk and chill with them while He Is Legend was on stage. he even went out of his way to find a silver marker so he can sign my shirt

I dont think his vocals have to really step up. I think thats just something you like or don't.

When they do covers though Thomas can really sing.

I've met the guys before and they are really nice if you dont act like there famous or anything. Thomas also has said a number of times he doesn't think of his guitar work as anything special and thinks he is better at the drums...

Anyway, i've also always liked his voice, but can understand how it could be disliked.

@Atavan - I believe they have covered some Smashing Pumkins and Brand New at their live shows...and they often cover Nirvana songs to lead into their own songs.

Also http://www.podcastfearless.com/nmb/index.php?id=360 is a podcast of them on fearless radio the other day.

Whatever happened to "Phantom on the Horizon"? I heard it was going to be a new cocept album with the tracks from the Ghostship EP.
