I think touring with Silverstein would be enough justification to leave the tour!
|
| |
He sure sounds sincere.
|
| |
sux, i was gonna go see them.
But oh well tour with chiodos hits STL like 5 days later so it'll be okay.
|
| |
good, now I won't be missing them during Spring Break.
|
| |
thought this might be coming
|
| |
They didn't ever want to be on this tour anyway. Sure it sucks but if they need time to figure some shit out, all the power to them.
|
| |
protest the tour
how is it that they're always touring with bad bands?
|
| |
how is it that they're always touring with bad bands? CAUSE THEY SOUND LIKE CHIODOS!
|
| |
Have to admit, the guy has a way with words.
|
| |
It's their management, which is the reason they broke this tour off.
|
| |
He sure sounds like a tool.
|
| |
Pretty unfortunate, especially considering I waited too long for tickets last month. Even greater fact is, that Kimbo Slice used to be my neighbor.
|
| |
How, exactly, does he sound like a tool?
|
| |
Rody cracks me up.
|
| |
However, dually note underneath this thin pail flesh, I am actually Kimbo Slice.
HAHAHAHAH
|
| |
How is he a tool? Their management is awful. Gets them awful tours, refuses to let them go overseas, markets them to the wrong demographic. Assuming this is in reference to their management then this is long overdue. He's an asshole but not a tool. This Message Edited On 03.12.08

wow i had no idea who kimbo slice is until i read this...holy shit he is basically the polar opposite of rody...gah that rody sure is clever
|
| |
aren't they playing warped tour this year? (for some dates at least?)
|
| |
They're playing the entire thing
|
| |
Yeah, asshole's the right word. Not for quitting the tour or anything, he explained them well enough. Just the way he was talking (typing).
|
| |
lol duckies. Im glad they're not touring with the awful Silverstein. Hopefully they'll find a better band to support next time. And why does their management team not want them to tour overseas Coke? Is it just because they're crap? This Message Edited On 03.12.08

Haha. Morons.
How the hell can you talk about trying to strive for "semi-professionalism," then do so by bailing on all your fans who spent their money to see you?
|
| |
I actually saw them in NYC on this tour, I ONLY went for them. For all the other bands I hung out in the lobby with Arif and Tim... Some of the nicest guys I've ever met.
|
| |
rody is actually diablo cody

Getting off a tour that has them playing before the audience is even inside to re-work your infrastructure, to better serve said fans, is the goal here. Are you really that slow? When your management's concern is not getting you to play for the audience that will appreciate it, there's a problem. When you're scheduled to play over a full year of shows, non-stop, and you aren't really amped to play with any of the bands, there's a problem. They're trying to remain accountable; cancelling this tour ensures many more will come; tours that are far more appropriate than opening for a fourth rate pop-punk band that's even hated in their hometown.
You really don't seem to understand how the music industry works, do you? This is more than likely an effort to guarantee that they're able to continue touring and not get burnt out playing too many gigs for too many people who don't care. This Message Edited On 03.12.08

It sounds like the smart move to quit, too bad for the fans though.
|
| |
For sure, it sucks for the fans, but the majority of them would in all likelihood have missed their set anyways. Not an excuse, but in the long run it makes sense. They'll be touring, as far as I know, well into 2009, so it's not like they won't be back.
While it's obvious that at least a fraction of those who had planned to go to these shows had planned to go purely to see Protest, this miniscule number, coupled with the fact that they have no urge to see the other acts, exposes their current tour's crippling fault. If only a small fraction of the audience is going to see you, and they have zero interest in any other band, there's obviously a problem.
That said, it's obviously bigger than this and by all accounts could not pertain to the bands on this tour at all. This Message Edited On 03.12.08
Getting off a tour that has them playing before the audience is even inside

the majority of them would in all likelihood have missed their set anyways.
This is just about the only time I'll challenge you with something on Protest. I personally went to see this tour and they played at my stop (Washington DC) an hour after doors opened. Doors at six, they played at seven. That seems like an incredibly reasonable time to play being as I've been to plenty of shows where opening bands come on a half hour after doors. With that being said, plenty of the crowd knew their stuff beforehand based on their actions and they definitely won over some new fans based upon their reactions to their set. But with all that being said, that was just for my stop and I'm not trying to correct what you said previously. Just letting you know how my experience differed. Sick band regardless and I hope they work everything out.
|
| |
Nah your thing makes sense, I'm just speaking on the grand scheme of it all. I've heard their frustration first hand and something like this is ridiculously overdue.
|
| |
Kimbo Slice!
|
| |
I can tell he's really a humorous and intelligent fellow.
Anyway I'll probably pick up tickets to see em if I can bear seeing Chiodos as well.
|
| |
This Rody guy is funny and I understand the reason for leaving the tour, but he does kinda come across as a dick when explaining it to their fans. Almost seems like he hates his own fanbase. I guess I probably would too, though.
|
| |
protest the hero is way too good for this tour anyways. silverstein is such garbage. i was going to dish out the money for this just for pth but o well. say anything is this friday so its all good!
|
| |
I'm from Silversteins home town and I can assure you, they are hated by all except those who are 11-17 year old girls and emo fags, who essenitally are girls...at least in my mind. Good on them for dropping out of this tour...what the hell is a metal band doing playing with a piece of shit "post hardcore" band? Give me a break. At least they can keep some credability.
|
| |
Rody doesn't hate fans at all, he just likes to see if he can get people that buy his cds and merch and stuff, to hate him. Its one thing to get someone to hate you, its a whole other to get your fans to hate you.
|
| |
However, dually note underneath this thin pail flesh, I am actually Kimbo Slice.
Now that made me lol
|
| |
He sounds like a Tool because he is one. He isn't fucking funny, and yes, I believe Rody is Diablo Cody.
In fact, I can guaranteee he is sitting in Canada right now talking on his hamburger phone.
|
| |
It's a shame they were on a tour that they didn't like or wutever but that really doesn't matter. There are people out there who bought tickets just to see them and for that reason and that reason only cancelling on the tour is a dick move.
If they planned to refund the money or something then it'd be okay but this is clearly them ignoring their fans and only looking out for themselves.
Yeah it sucks to do something you don't want to do but that's called a job. A lot of the time people don't necessarily want to do there job but they do because they have people counting on them.
It's their responsibility to make amends to that kid who bought a ticket to the show to see them and now only gets to see the shit bands still on the tour. This mve is them just shitting on their fans.
Sorry for the rant but i know id be really pissed if i bought a ticket to see them on this tour. This Message Edited On 03.12.08

Cocaine, no need to freak out.
When a band signs on to do a tour, it's not that unreasonable for them to be expected to finish it. You can give me this "restructuring" and "you don't know the music industry bullshit, but I think that it's stupid. The only way this is justifiable is if the band started completely falling apart since the tour started, in which case maybe they should just go their separate ways.
|
| |
refuses to let them go overseas
epic gayness
|

epic gayness I would think the same thing about your photo if I was a lesbian :naughty:
|
| |
Ya, why are they playing for shitty bands...they need to play with like The Mars Volta, or bands that actually are good, and sorta have the same demographic as them.

The band has very little say in what tours they're placed on.
You want to talk fans, let's talk radius clause. Here's an example: A while back, this fall, the band wanted to play a small bar-gig just outside of Toronto (in Hamilton, it's about 40 minutes out). Their contract, a result of their infrastructure, did not allow them to do this. They had unknowingly been backed into a radius clause. The show in Toronto, planned to take place three to four months later (w/ Devil Wears Prada, Silverstein) activated the radius clause, and thus the band was unable to play a small, intimate show for their fans (and themselves, to a point) because the guys calling the shots felt it would hinder sales for the upcoming shows.
It's bigger than four to five shows. This move ensures a future. It's a short term dick move for long term security. The band has not fallen apart, and they don't want to. This is why they're taking a step back and taking a look at themselves. They signed their management and contracts at the age of 18. It's time to look at their support system.
Not everybody wants to shell out 20-40 bucks to see Protest play a 20-30 minute opening set. With their current situation, they're not in a place to play smaller more intimate gigs on off days. This is just a small example of a bevy of problems I've gotten word of.This Message Edited On 03.13.08
