Reznor, as a bassist i would argue that anyone who can play the bass can easily pick up a guitar. Its far easier to sound like a good guitarist than a good bassist. I agree the bass can be easy to pick up and play root notes etc, but to master the bass you need to be inventive and free thinking, much more so than on the guitar

Well most instruments are easy to pick up. To master any instrument is hard. Dave probably would have said any instrument he was playing is "easy to play" unless it was guitar, and if it was, he'd just say it sucked. There's really no logic behind that statement at all.

Have any of you who are saying bass is an easy instrument heard Steve DiGiorgio, Sean Malone and Jaco Pastorious to name is few? It may be easy to pick up but to get that good is quite a task.

Bass is a very very easy instrument to pick up quick, and (this may be because i played bass for 4 years before guitar) harder to master.. his band is a joke anyway.. one good album (good at best) does not qualify this guy to be this much of a cunt

I havent really heard much Megadeth except a few of their more well known songs, but this makes me never want to hear anything more.

As a talented musician Mustaine should be embarrassed by what he has said. An instrument can be as hard or a simple as you want to make it, the style and new ways of using an instrument make using it more difficult. Playing guitar is very easy if you play "One note song" by Tenacious D, but he chooses to up the complexity by playing speed metal. Likewise bass is very simple if you decide to play 3 note songs, but I am pretty sure playing any Dreamtheater, Jaco Pastorius etc, takes extreme skill and talent.

Just because he chooses to play an instrument a certain way does not make it simple and he of all people should realise this.

Metallica has always been more enjoyable than Megadeth to me, even if both are annoying with their political exploits in the media.
