2007-12-29 by encmetalhead | 38 Comments
Taken from the Editor's Page in the Jan/Feb '08 Issue on newsstands now.

1. Machine Head - The Blackening
2. The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal
3. Down - Down III: Over The Under
4. Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works
5. Arch Enemy - Rise Of The Tyrant
6. Horse: The Band - A Natural Death
7. Baroness - Red Album
8. Between The Buried And Me - Colors
9. Immolation - Shadows In The Light
10. Chimaira - The Resurrection

Also in the Jan/Feb issue is their yearly "Year In Metal" feature. This year they asked artists about the state in metal in 2008 and what they're looking forward to in 2008.

Wayne Static on Static-X had this to say:
Quote:
I would love to live in the state of metal; I hear it's beautiful there, but it's too far from Los Angeles.

A metal magazine's top albums of the year. Now that won't be biased....

The fact that WitR are not on here is just amazing. The albums on here are a bunch Core albums, not metal. This list is terrible.

it's suppose to be biased towards metal since it's a metal mag >.< why would they have radiohead or Lupe when they are a metal mag?

How very typical that The Blackening was top. At least Colors is on here.

Colors is becoming pretty standard on the lists. It's as though they try to somehow validate their list by putting it on there.

mainstream metal is boring.

but no one expected neurosis, russian circles, or boris to make it on there

edit: not that it is boring because it is mainstream, it's just right now the whole scene is a pretty big void. This Message Edited On 12.29.07

machine head had it pretty much sewn up, 2007 was an horrendous year for metal. chimaira's inclusion on this list says it all.

I disagree. I think it's one of their best. Other than that, though, the rest of those albums don't deserve to be up there. Especially the Machine Head. What the HELL.

2007 was an horrendous year for metal

Do you not come on this website often? There was lots to chew on concerning 2007's metal releases.

On topic now, I wrote down five of the most predictable releases on this list before I looked at it. I named Machine Head as the best album (and I was right, yeah!), Baroness, BTBAM, Chimaira, and the Dillinger Escape Plan!

I think we should all have a vote on which metal magazine/ website has the best list for metal in 2007?This Message Edited On 12.31.07

IIt's not like we didn't see this coming. Every year it's the albums that got the most hype/ which bands are the most popular, not which bands put out the best material.

^How are you gonna (objectively) judge that though? I think it's pretty obvious that the most hyped-up, best-selling (or whatever) albums are the ones that the general public, as well as the critics like best. Duh.

Uh, whatever, Immolation owns this list (and hasn't received much commercial or critical attention).

The albums that get hyped up and sell the best are from the most popular bands, not the bands that make the best music (like I said); the general public has been wrong before. It's just a matter of opinion I suppose.

My main point was that I don't agree with this list; it's very predictable.

Slaytan

I predicted 1,2,3,4,5,7 and 8 would be there. Out of those albums the only ones I see being worthy of a nod are 2 and 7.
Once again, my main point was I disagree with the list, no more and no less.
