This is kind of irritating. I would have expected something more insightful from Fay Weldon. To associate the Spice Girls with feminism in the first place, rather than commercialism, consummerism, secularism and so forth is not too bright. Secondly, why would a feminist writer care whether they looked old or had lost the zest of youth. And as for blaming the Spice Girls for the moral decay in society, that sounds more like some right wing Christian grandmother. I absolutely despise sexism and all philosophies that are used to oppress people on the basis of gender, race, class or whatever, but facile articles of this nature don't do much to set things right.

I'm a feminist, and I think that the spice girls dont have much effect on feminism. I do see them as a bit of a bad influence, but thats more to do with virture than feminism.

It's an article from The Daily Mail, what do you expect? I'm suprised the Spice Girls weren't accused of smuggling immigrants into the country and encouraging them to take benefits and/or steal our jobs, depending on which mood they're currently in.
