Pennywise to write new album

2006-05-27 by Alex101 | 9 Comments
Hermosa Beach, California punk rockers Pennywise are currently taking a break and have recently finished touring. There has been a word that band will continue/begin writing their follow-up to 2005's The Fuse. As of yet, there are no plans to enter the studio to start recording it sometime in 2006.

Last year, frontman Jim Lindberg stated that the follow-up to The Fuse was in the works as it had some songs that were not on the album. Also during last year, after the The Fuse was released, there were some rumors of a break up after their Australian tour was cancelled. Then later, Lindberg denied that statement and decided to keep the band active in the future.

There are some rumors that say that Pennywise's next album will likely surface for release sometime in 2007, but no word about it by the band is known.

I pretty much have to agree with Iluvatar on that. Maybe they'll try something new.

I tried hard to figure out the exact point where Pennywise slipped into self-parody, but it eluded me...it was quite a while ago though.

Yeah, their stuff is too same for a while. Quite the reason why I lost interest in their stuff. Maybe they'll change something. It would be very interesting to see them evolve further

the last amazing album was "straight ahead," altho land of the free wasn't too bad at all. the last two have been a bit bland though...

still, great band, good for the odd listen here and there.

I feel their whole career has just been a rip off of Bad Religion, but thats just me I guess

Yeah, its crazy, but maybe that's why its currently one of the most progressive and systemically sprawling genres of music out there.

Mmmm new PW album. Interesting.

Personally I think Pennywise are nearing the end of the tenure. Either they need to change their style or hang up the microphones, because another 3 albums in the vein of Land of the Free?, From The Ashes and The Fuse would ensure their career fizzles out dramatically, and any argument that can still be sustained that not all the songs sound the same would surely be void.

So, here's hoping the boys serve up something interesting. Although when you've been playing the same style of music for 17 years I can't really see where the divergence is going to come from...

And to iluvatar - I'd say it's much more like they have ripped off Straight Ahead over their last three albums. Straight Ahead was a great album and while the last three have been solid, they is no doubt that they are all equally unremarkable. This Message Edited On 05.30.06

iluvator, what a bleek view on one of the great punk bands
of our generation, if its not broken why fix it? Perhaps research before you say such a brutal remark, sure there last album wasnt as good as straight ahead but how can u improve on perfection????From the Ases and The Fuse are still great albums and still have as much passion as ever, straight ahead was where they peaked, expect something big from pennywise with this new album, there live show is still fantastic, i seen them on the 14th july 2006 and they were better then ever, fantastic actually, pennywise will disgrace all there critics with their new album and make for a great finale'.
