This Darkened Heart and The Fall of Ideals have their gems, they’re not perfect records but no revisionism is gonna change that

I even like a few tracks off Ideals but I thought they always paled in comparison to the other melodic metalcore out at the time

enjoy it all and make a playlist about it, that energy was better used back then to gatekeep the better bands

They can do any PR/behind closed curtains stuff all they want, but the timing of all of this is weird...especially because there's been no tour to support the album, and needless to say the guitar parts on Antifragile are more complicated than your normal metalcore romp. Whoever ends up filling in has their work cut out for them

A lot of guitarists in Prog Metal/Deathcore bands are like that nowadays. Sniffing their own farts because they can play guitar really good.

Adding to the fall of ideals discussion... album rips. The riffs, solos, and harmonies are all top notch on that album. It's like melodic metalcore with a touch of heavy metal shred. End of heartache in no way compares lol

Also, yeah i really hate this movement toward fart sniffing tech/prog the last probably 5-7 years. Bands more interested in showing off their chops than writing something solid without a bunch of unnecessary fills that dont even fit the song. Some of it is cool but seems like a bunch of dudes trying the be the best players

While I can agree Oli is a better player than the Killswitch guys, the song writing on Heartache is way better. Still don't get the hype around that album and I was around when it dropped

dudes solo albums are djent at it's most shreddiest, no idea why he bothered with all that remains other than tour revenue. and yeah darkened heart/fall of ideals are certified 2000s nostalgia, i remember my brothers bumping overcome for like 3 weeks before never listening to the band again

Listened through The Fall of Ideals the other day, not bad and not at all what I expected. Didn't realize how much melodic vocal choruses this had. It wasn't as 'metal' as I expected and really dipped into post-hardcore and even hard-rock at times

I think they were on tour with Dragonforce during TDH and got influenced by them to get a little more technical with their lead work in TFoI

Objectively the best decision of his life. I hope he regains his peace of mind now.
