Testament Loses Nick Barker

2007-10-08 by Trey STAFF | 14 Comments
Veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers TESTAMENT have recruited Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN, SYSTEMATIC) to play the drums on the band's forthcoming album, tentatively due next spring via Nuclear Blast Records. The group was previously rehearsing and writing new material with British drummer Nick Barker (CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR), but Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and international work visa issues have prevented Barker from continuing to be involved in the project.

Bostaph, who was a member of TESTAMENT for a brief period starting around February 2004, had previously played several live dates with the group in 1992 and appeared on the band's 1993 live EP, "Return to the Apocalyptic City". He also toured with TESTAMENT in 2006.

TESTAMENT's current lineup is rounded out by Chuck Billy on vocals, Alex Skolnick on lead guitar, Eric Peterson on rhythm guitar and Greg Christian on bass.

And Barker brought more of a different style than what we're used to hearing from a thrash band. But Bostaph will be a good replacement.

Barker>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bostaph.
Nick is one of the best in black metal but I've never heard his work with Testament.

There was nothing to hear from Nick while he was in Testament except for random low-quality youtube videos... I'm bummed about this, but still looking forward to the new album.

Nah, Paul is better IMO. That dude goes apeshit over his kit and it's awesome.

Barker was way better because of his diversity. No offense to Bostaph, as good a drummer as he is, doesnt play anything unique.

Nick Barker maybe fat, but his weight is worth of gold .... I think he is faster than Bostaph, yet he would have taken Testament's music into a brand new heights..

I prefer Nick as a drummer, but Bostaph is a better fit.

Coke,
Coming from a background of drumming, I can tell Barker is unique in his own way. Lots of drummers can do fast paced metal, but Barker's fills are what I enjoy the most about him. I take back my comment about him being diverse though! This Message Edited On 10.11.07

I don't like Paul...
