Song is really nice, a bopper if you will

Such a cool song. The drums are so good.
| |
This style suits them.
| |
Nice song
| |
Boring.
| |
Mix could definitely use more snare, it's not loud enough at all.
| |
Sounds like down tuned Evanescence
| |
“Mix could definitely use more snare, it's not loud enough at all.”
Is this a joke? Lol it cuts the mix so hard to me
| |
one of those bands that despite all the sound changes still hits for me. sad that they'll probably never make anything better than their self titled though
| |
Courtney on point as usual
| |
Love the percussion. Gives me hope for their next album.
| |
The drumming is dope but idk.
| |
Song is fine
| |
ditto autosacrifice, their debut will always be my personal favorite. They never quite hit that same tone/vibe/atmosphere since, though I can still appreciate the new stuff
I do like this quite a bit despite Eternal Blue not really doing it for me.
| |
"Is this a joke? Lol it cuts the mix so hard to me"
Yes, that was the joke. I fucking hate this trend in metal mixes, it's ruined a lot of otherwise great records for me.
| |
Ok I thought so but had to ask 😂
Yeah he hits it so many times in this song too it begins to wear on you
| |
catchy, drums are super sick. dreamy chorus. was hoping for maybe some rawrs in the bridge but was still good. solid track
| |
"Yeah he hits it so many times in this song too it begins to wear on you"
Exactly! The drums in the song ARE great, just don't use a snare sound that doesn't fucking work in context.
| |
I don't know whose more to blame for this one, Rise records or the band. It's not interesting at all.
| |
i don't get it, this doesn't chug or djen or riff?? usually it does at least one
| |
Song rules
| |
This song is fine. Solid. I’m all for them including a couple of these more accessible, radio rock songs on their albums as long as the majority of the album is heavier/more innovative.
| |
Was expecting to hate this but its sick
| |
Liked this way more than any of their screamy stuff which probably means that I'm getting old.
| |
Great track, hoping we'll get a new album soon.
| |
boring song
| |
Reminds me a lot of Disperse
| |
thought this was very ok and largely forgettable
| |
I like that Spiritbox has been pursuing melody as well as the djunz but yeah, this track just doesn't have the juice.
| |
metalcore with no dissonance is just beefed up radio rock
| |
"metalcore with no dissonance is just beefed up radio rock"
Never thought about it this way, but there is a lot of truth in there
| |
im being slightly hyperbolic but yeah, i basically just mean that a lot of the very popular metalcore these days is built around the catchy verse/chorus format with a 'heavy' bit thrown in, making it incredibly radio friendly. its artificial
| |
I don't think you're just talking about the BMTH copycats doing That's The Spirit-Core, right?
| |
it's just alt-metal at this point
| |
yeah, a lot of what sharptone records are putting out
what has supplanted risecore basically
| |
I am another mid song away from not following this band anymore
| |
too bad radio waves sound like shit
| |
chorus reminds me of 90s devin townsend in the modern era, i'm not mad about it
| |
I’d say these guys have been on the incline since Eternal Blue. Rotoscope was an improvement and now this track is very good
| |
that except in reverse
| |

| |
Song rules hard. The vocal delivery and melodies remind me of Anberlin kinda
| |
Nah EB was hot garbage
| |
i liked this a lot
| |
meh, vocals are on point like always tho
| |
Band went downhill as soon as they signed to Rise… their previous material before Rise is their best.
| |
Yeah pretty much
| |
“metalcore with no dissonance is just beefed up radio rock”
This is both correct and is awesome. I love me some good butt rock and this is no exception
| |
i think its more pop rock than butt rock but it definitely isnt metalcore lmao
| |
Thor with the good take
| |
I'm down with this sound, song needed a little something else to really make it memorable but this floaty atmospheric approach suits them.
| |
I'm torn between being underwhelmed by the song and relieved they're not Rotoscoping it up anymore
| |
Rotoscope my butt….
Rockiswar
| |
I'd rather not but rock on
| |
I don't think you're just talking about the BMTH copycats doing That's The Spirit-Core, right?
| |
I like the song and the melodic direction the band is pushing in actually, but I really wish they would get another producer. I know when bands start tuning their guitars this low that achieving clarity can be a challenge, but damn some of these songs verge on being a wall of noise behind Courtney. It feels like this has been ongoing for the band since after the Singles Collection
| |
I like the vocals a lot, but everything else feels kind of cartoonish. I don’t know how to describe it. Like, the downtuned guitars feel out of place and like the song could almost be in some AMV, but still doesn’t feel right, even for that.
| |
Thoroughly mediocre band. No clue why EB gets a 3.6. It's nickelcore at best.
| |
tl;dr of thread: it's mediocre, it's great, it rules, it's forgettable, it's Evanescence, it's 90's prog, it's mixed well, it sounds like shit, it's metalcore, it's alt-metal, the band's getting better, the band's getting worse, it's sick, it's fake
| |
such a rollercoaster of emotions this band is eh?
| |
Another post to say how mediocre this is. Band is overrated live too.
| |
someone's chugging the hateraid big time
| |
like you were when Eternal Blue came out
| |
Song is great, just saw them live and they killed it. Really dig the direction they're taking. Always love seeing the genre fights over metal bands, very comical to read
| |
This hits a similar vein as Northlane's Clockwork which is already from around 2 years ago. I can see this work great for digital consumption, though I'd rather grab me a beer if this came up live.
| |
lol what's wrong with Rotoscope Art!
| |
Songs a heat
| |
subpar chorus for spiritbox, rest of song is pretty nice though
| |
I wonder if Courtney's back hurts from carrying this band so hard. Jeremy writes some fun riffs but they've been way subdued since that first EP.
| |
It's the way it goes when you sign to a poopoo metalcore label. I know they grow and change as people and that changes the type of music you want to create, but there's no way they weren't influenced by the opportunities afforded to them if they played ball.
They said the first EP was the result of them listening to a ton of Tesseract at the time. Maybe they should go back to the djent headspace cause they still haven't topped that EP.
| |
"imagine being such a retard that you think this is an insult"
Imagine this is how you feel compelled to heckle a random in the year of our lord 2023.
Yadda yadda, buddy.
| |
Sleep Token thread will look just like this
| |
Courtney sounds great and she's kinda the main draw for me at this point. So yeah, dig it.
| |
She sounds great as expected but the song is so boring and monotonous
| |
Overproduced snoozer.
| |
I agree that their producer kinda sucks, it's mindblowing watching Mikey do playthroughs of their songs because you can barely tell what he's doing in the mix of their releases
| |
I'm with Balls. Band's just kinda boring for me
| |
"Jeremy writes some fun riffs"
"watching Jeremy do playthroughs"
Mike. There is no Jeremy lol.
| |
what are you talking about
| |
Ya dude Steve writes some killer sections, he's my favorite Spirit Box.
| |
"It's nickelcore at best"
Nickelcore. I love it
Never really bothered to check these guys out, but this song is pretty good
| |
It's a decent song
| |
"This style suits them."
Agreed. This is where they thrive. They'd be well-advised to lean into the melodic sound. They're better at it and more $$$
| |
complete wagon of a tune
10/10
| |
I’d like if they went an alt rock route. Like, ditched the downtunings and just binge Third Eye Blind
| |
Third Box Blind
Third Spirit Boxed
Third Eye Spirit
| |
Spirit Eye Blind - Third Box Deluxe Box Anniversary Box
| |
new song is cute once you get past how loud the drums are. I've come around on it, it's pretty catchy
| |
I mean its a fine song still dont get the hype around this band. She has a nice voice yeah. Oh well to all who enjoy it go nuts not for me.
| |
I feel like the hype has pretty much died down at this point. As far as appeal goes, it's just fun bubble-gum pop metal with breakdowns and great vocals
| |
Gaskeep Gateboss Girllight
| |
Yeah thats fair still at least i can see the appeal to this. Sleep token on the other hand has me scratching my head
| |
I don't really get the appeal of that band either, it feels astroturfed
| |
My friend got asked to open for them but logistics and costs meant it wouldnt work out. My intial take is its soyboi prog for core kids.
| |
Big dumpy track
| |
“I feel like the hype has pretty much died down at this point.”
Man I don’t think so. Feel like they’re huge rn
| |
I think the online-only hype has died down a bit since they finally put out an LP, but they're definitely huge overall atm, they's been touring a ton and playing some pretty massive shows.
