Swans return this fall 2019-09-05 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 17 Comments | Michael Gira decided in 2017 to shake things around in order to reshape Swans' output. He spent time in Berlin, Germany and Iceland rehearsing, recording and mixing with a vast array of artists such as Ben Frost, Anna and Maria von Hausswolff, The Necks or Baby Dee, besides his former live band and Angels of Light contributors. The resulting record is called leaving meaning. and will see the light of day on October 25 through the front man's own Young God Records and Mute Records in UK. The album will be released in the following formats:
- 2xLP (includes special insert, 18”x24” poster and download card with all extended mixes and additional track. Please note some tracks on the vinyl release have been edited for length)
- 2xCD (extended mixes and additional track)
- digital download (additional track)
Both CD and 2xLP are double printed and embossed on raw cardboard stock.
Gira also revealed the first song off leaving meaning., called 'It's Coming It's Real', featuring Anna and Maria von Hausswolff. Listen to it below:
The tracklist is the following:
1. 'Hums'
2. 'Annaline'
3. 'The Hanging Man'
4. 'Amnesia'
5. 'Leaving Meaning'

7. 'Cathedrals of Heaven'
8. 'The Nub'
9. 'It's Coming It's Real'
10. 'Some New Things' (CD/DIGITAL ONLY)

| | | Fucking best news
| | | 12 tracks, so we lookin at a 2.5 hr album here?
(stoked for his btw...last three albums are all amazing.)
| | | Meh, song is ok.
Digging the more ethereal direction but this isn’t fleshed out enough.
Still looking forward to the album though.
| | | Another post-rock snoozefest album.
| | | Feels like an interlude between two grandiose songs that'll be on the album.
It does built into something nice, however.
| | | i like the vocals
| | | yessss
| | | Terrible
| | | ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
| | | Song was kinda meh but I'm hopeful it'll make more sense in the album's context. Still hyped as hell
| | | Great. Now Fantano is going to masturbate REALLY HARD.
| | | Name a more Swans title than that lol
| | | Song was meh
| | | Since TBK, I have been craving for a return to the more country/folk sound from the early 90s and AOL material. It sounds like this record might do that to some extent from the sound of this track, and it is absolutely superb.
