It's got a cool melody to it but at the same time I'm getting more disappointed. They couldn't have given this a solo or something?
| |
Oh good
| |
Possibly one of the most generic songs in the discog damn, and it could be the album opener too if Lyra/Vega are short instrumental pieces.
"we just tried to make it more extreme — the softer side on this album is really soft, and the heavy side is really heavy. We decided to give everybody what they want to the furthest degree."
We'll see
| |
"and it could be the album opener too if Lyra/Vega are short instrumental pieces."
it is
| |
how p r o g of them
did anyone ask for world-building atmospheric intros/outros to a fucking radio hard-rock album?
still might be listenable tho
| |
They did it on Phobia. Don't know what's the big deal about it.
| |
Phobia had an intro and an outro track, this is nothing new my nigga
| |
standard BB imo. album might not warrant a purchase, but i'll spin it a few times once it's out on youtube or some shit.
| |
Song is pretty sick but I think 12 year old me would have enjoyed this much more than 20 year old me. Band has always been a guilty pleasure tho.
| |
All i wanted was to have the artwork not suck
| |
Sounds like a decent 10 Years song tho.
| |
Nothing surprising, but enjoyable.
| |
Song rules
| |
band who had one good song like ten years ago fails to impress with each generic followup who would have guessed
| |
harsh. what's their "one good song"?
| |
Diary of Jane
| |
I'd go with Polyamorous but that's just me
Caught the end of their set when I went to see Avenged Sevenfold last night, they weren't terrible
"I think 12 year old me would have enjoyed this much more than 20 year old me."
Prett much the only reason I listen to these guys anymore. Just harmless radio rock, but they're definitely a step above their peers
| |
Diary of Jane was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on guitar that was in such a low tuning
| |
Yeah, this has got Diary of Jane written all over it.
Is this seriously what Breaking Benjamin have been reduced to? Ripping off themselves? Dark Before Dawn was just as fucking bad they might as well have stayed quit after Phobia.
| |
I like Ben's screams in this quite a bit
| |
Dude same, I remember seeing how low the tuning was and thinking this band was so unique and heavy by using that tuning haha
| |
The ol' meaty Drop B.
| |
No way, I swear it's even lower. A# or some shit
| |
Honestly wouldn't surprise me haha, you're approaching Slipknot/Whitechapel territory right there with Drop A#, trust Breaking Benjamin to deliberately go that low
| |
Aaaaaaand we're right back to Breaking Benjamin by numbers.
You know, I've read interviews where Ben says that they don't want to stray too far from their sound for the fans' sake, but at this point I'm convinced that they couldn't even if they wanted to.
| |
Idk I don’t think it’s that great of a song, but there does seem to be some aspects of a different sound than their usual.
| |
It is a meaty drop A#, which is weird to hear from a band like this
| |
So p r o g bro
| |
Bro could you even imagine Ben rockin out a djent track outta nowhere?? I would lose my shit lmaoooo
| |
What's with the weird vocal effects they've been using for the chorus? It's really distracting. Also that's awful album art. They broke their alternating color schemes. Boo
| |
"Aaaaaaand we're right back to Breaking Benjamin by numbers."
when did they ever really leave it tbh.
| |
It's aight. Not Red Cold River, but it's aight.
| |
Woah this rules HARD
| |
"band who had one good song like ten years ago fails to impress with each generic followup who would have guessed"
One good song?
| |
They sound like they can't escape 2005.
| |
If they only have one good song, it's probably something like Home or Sugarcoat from Saturation.
| |
"Saturate"
But I think he means Diary of Jane or something
| |
They have way more than 2 songs
| |
well this was disappointing
| |
Its just as sweet as I ammmm RAAAWWWRRRR
| |
also, I feel like the line "shed my skin" is in every BB album at least once
| |
Yeah Fade Away’s got it, there’s probably more
| |
not looking good for this, I have to say.
| |
I can’t believe something this generic took three guitarists to make.
| |
i know, right? lol and here we were thinking we'd get a little more dynamic from three guitars this time.
| |
obviously was talking about diary of jane lol rest of their stuff was lame af
three days grace for kids who were ashamed about listening to three days grace (even though they had more good tracks)
| |
I never had much of an issue with Breaking Benjamin or Three Days Grace. They accomplished their goal of defining the early 2000's post-grunge movement, so anyone who had high expectations cheated themselves. Rating this on what Breaking Benjamin usually releases, I can say its about what I'd expect of them. Its a fresher take on their traditional sound, but I agree its nothing to get excited about. Though, I probably will end up listening to their new album anyways.
| |
Ben's voice is so weird on Diary of Jane
| |
Ben has a unique voice. Its crystal clear and has a decent range. I thought 'Diary of Jane' was a good track and Ben delivered it well. The piano version rivals the original.
| |
Not a huge fan of these first two singles, though I enjoyed this more than Red Cold River. Melody suits the band better these days than 'heavy for the sake of heavy'. Big fan of the band since Saturate, it took me a little bit to really get into Dark Before Dawn but I came around. There are some great tunes on that record... even if it's mostly BB by the numbers. Expecting roughly the same with Ember.
If they're going to go heavy, they gotta go all-in like they did when they weren't ~40 years old.
| |
Too much autotune between Burnley and Bruch on chorus, not enough guitar there either. I thought Starset cites BB as an influence, not the other way around.
| |
Starset is a decent band who I'm excited to see flourish. I get your point about the roles being reversed. Seems interesting to say the least.
| |
Well yeah Jane is a great song but his voice sounds different on it compared to every other song they've done
| |
It definitely is BB by the numbers, but I'll take this over all the truly cringe-worthy Fall Out Boy copycats (yes, that is unfortunately a thing) all over the radio.
| |
Damn this new in flames song is pretty meh
| |
Yeah Starset are okay don’t mind them
| |
bit different bit the same, what I wanted tbh
| |
I'm actually digging this more with every listen. The melody in it is what's keeping my attention.
I guess the one awkward thing is that this is the opening song and it doesn't feel like it should be.
| |
Gee, and I thought one Breaking Benjamin song was bad enough!
| |
Diary of Jane is a pretty average song for them though. Maybe that's why it's popular but imo it doesn't stand out at all from the rest of their discog at all
| |
well yeah it does because it's not completely boring
| |
Lol
| |
That drumming is extremely repetitive.
| |
I mean, they're both
| |
[2]
| |
You're a fucking idiot if you don't think Breaking Benjamin doesn't have grunge elements
| |
Dang Steak got pissed
| |
Dude gets me heated lmao, he can never be wrong
| |
I assumed for when they play live and Ben doesn't want to play
| |
Very tru, and I don't have an answer for you lmao
| |
I never thought it was necessary for them to have 3 guitarists in the first place
| |
They gotta have some dude poundin out the chugs while the other two are harmonizing m/
| |
