Tigran Hamasyan announces new record 2016-12-17 by Onirium | 12 Comments | Armenian jazz pianist Tigran Hamasyan has issued details concerning his upcoming solo record, "An Ancient Observer, scheduled for release on March 31.
The album is the follow-up to 2015's highly acclaimed Mockroot, and will, according Tigran's website, continue his explorations of a wide range of influences, "from classical Baroque dance to J-Dilla-esque hip-hop grooves adapted to piano."
The album is composed of songs written over the course of the last three of four years, with Tigran describing them as "musical observations about the world we live in now, and the weight of history we carry with us", and his compositional approach as influenced by the timelessness of the Armenian land:
"For me it is an awakening, and a beautiful feeling, to be able to observe the magnificence of this sleeping volcanic giant, which has existed for millions of years and was observed by the Ararat Valley Koura-Arax culture through to the present day citizens of the Armenian republic."
A live rendition of a song from the album, "Fides Tua", has been released:

If it walks further on the Mockroot road I definitely want to hear it

There was no clear statement about this, but from the various descriptions I read of the album, I have the impression that it's a solo piano record.

I was introduced to him through A Fable, the only other solo piano record from his catalogue, an album I initially found mindblowing, and that I still enjoy, although I've come to find it slightly overblown with needless flourishes. His solo playing now sounds much more mature, thoughtful and organic. Fides Tua does, at least

Mockroot was a little too djenty for my tastes, but it still contained a lot of highlights which made me enjoy it quite much. I'm listening to this one for sure.

A Fable is a great disc
Same for Shadow Theater, although it's overshadowed by Mockroot.
I personally like also some tunes out of Red Hail (which was... djenty in some ways)
