@Corey, I don't think it's a joke, but more of a stylistic choice. Kinda like how Behemoth replaces all of their f's with v's, or Zyklon's - World ov Worms, or the users on this site with "Ov" in their name. But the u to v dates back to the ancient Roman alphabet, and if you look at any old inscriptions v's were once used in place of u.
