i like it.
| |
yeah i'm liking this, tho I need to listen to Sunbather in full still.
| |
fantastic
| |
Pretty cool
| |
Gets better with every listen. Very solid opener; stoked as much as ever for a new record.
| |
Well I'm excited
| |
it's okay
| |
It's as if they rushed that ending with the poorly done fade out, the middle of the song was too boring.
| |
very good
| |
That riff was some sick shit
| |
damn this is good, definitely interested in this album
| |
didn't like that transition at 3:20. gets interesting after 5 minutes again, but that outro didn't do much for me, and I agree with Exhale that they rushed with that fade out. too bad, I really liked that song they put out last year, this was like a 2.5
| |
definitely appreciate the way their song progression crosses over dissonant and melodic styles.
| |
k
| |
Pretty cool song; though if the entire album really does sound like this, it's gonna get boring quick.
| |
that thrashy riff around the 1:20 mark is fucking tasty. I’m glad this isn’t shaping up to be a Sunbather clone.
| |
This is so good
| |
Fixxin ta listen
| |
Bells at the intro kinda reminded me of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. Pretty good song
| |
Great song, enjoying the direction
| |
You made me click on Pitchfork, asshole.
But yeah the song is great. Very dark, legit black metal here.
| |
FADEOUTS ARE FUCKING LAME.
Rest was good.
| |
is hating fade outs the new thing? i think they're pretty effective for music like deafheavens'. unless they use it on every song then that would be kinda dumb
| |
love the direction, can't wait to hear all of dis
| |
Fade outs may or may not be appropriate depending on the song, but I think that they should be used sparingly
| |
fade out = easy way out :D
| |
I hope the new album is in the vain of the track they put out last year too, that track was sickaf
| |
'didn't like that transition at 3:20.'
I thought it was fine. Over all the whole song is pretty dece
| |
Seriously, fadeouts are LAZY and hating them is not a new thing- bands have been using them forever and it has always been a weak ass move. This one particularly sucks because it fades and then piano just gets shit into it.
| |
Loved it just on the first listen. The fadeout was disappointing though.
| |
i can dig it
yes i can.
| |
Damn, I loved the fadeout.
I couldn't have asked for anything more. Excellent song, and fantastic outro.
| |
Totally digging the darker atmosphere, ending would need a bit of work but w/e
| |
haha this fadeout thing is turning into a meme
fucking fadeouts
| |
lol that chugging at 1:20 is goddamn m/
| |
Yup. This is awesome.
| |
Song was meh
| |
5:40 tho. Jesus
| |
Why is hating on fadeouts a thing? They can be really cool when done well.
Also its not like everyone ending on a single note is more difficult
| |
I agree on fadeouts not fitting every song, but lets not hate on them just for being the "easy way out"
| |
not really feeling this
| |
fadeouts can have the perfect effect on a track, don't see a reason to hate them as a rule
| |
I don't think anybody hates them in general, that's ridiculous haha
FADEOUTS ARE THE NEW BREAKDOWNS
| |
piano should have come soon after to fadeout to hide the fact that fadeouts are often bad
no meme
| |
Alright, they can fit sometimes and they don't always represent lazy songwriting. I really don't care for it here, though. I mean, there are still vocals. I guess I just don't get it.
| |
this doesn't sound pink enough tho ((((
| |
naw it sounds dark blue, like this cover has
| |
Yeah the fade-out kinda sucks, mostly because it's done at a part where it feels like the song should still keep playing. Would have been much better if they'd played into the piano a la "The Leper Affinity" or something. But track was definitely awesome, hoping to see a full song based around those opening riffs because damn those actually had a bite to them!
| |
this is niiice
| |
LOVING this. Pretty killer. Hope the rest of the tracks are this good.
| |
I really liked the darker feel; that really kvlt beginning was great and it was wonderful to hear them whip out the chugs.
You made me click on Pitchfork, asshole.
ehehehehehehehehe
| |
Yea this was pretty good.
| |
Song takes too long to get going IMO. And the builds aren't really all that. Vox feel shoehorned. The lead guitar parts are straight up annoying me. I don't hate this, but I think it has more going against it than for it.
| |
I'm liking it more now that I'm home, baked and listening to it through an actual speaker.
That fucking fade out could have easily been better. Why not fade out everything but the lead guitar and transition to the piano?
| |
or bring the piano up slowly so it merges with the rest of the band, then bring the band down slowly so they fade away into the piano?
| |
Rather be a beta with good taste than whateveritis you are tbh.
| |
beta cucks hahahaha
| |
I'm faded too and it feels like its only 4 min long
| |
good shoemetal lel
| |
Dey ain't Jordans tho!! Lmao
| |
Some people do. Don't try to change mothafuckas
| |
The Hard Times reached out to the Deafheaven vocalist for comment but his response was too low in the mix for us to understand
| |
where's the gaze
| |
this was great
| |
better than any song from sunbather
| |
Different pokes for different blokes.
| |
good song. i agree with the fadeout criticism. i also think it will likely lead to the next track.
this definitely didn't immediately grab me like dream house did but i wasn't expecting another sunbather. call me a nerd or whatever but i think that album is really incredible. their defining work.
| |
better than sunbather
| |
Same quality as Sunbather.
Edit; actually it's worse, it's cheesy as fuck and the elements of the song seem poorly mixed idk
| |
if they did a whole album like that cool riff in the beginning it would be a pretty cool album also it would help if everyone in the band didn't look like they are from a settle based serial rapist syndicate.
| |
It would also help if whatever they feel like adding to the songs -- e.g. piano, keyboards, sound effects -- were actually properly mixed.
| |
they should do a lo-fi album
they really need to up their krieg fanbase
| |
Nah, just shouldn't make it sound like the cheesy sound effects of an 80's film soundtrack
| |
So totally into this, love the fact it has more of a 'metal' and sinister vibe. Cant wait for the new record.
| |
Great song.
| |
awesome song v excited
| |
What a great track! Can't wait to see them on Saturday!!!!
| |
Songs good, but its no new pecan tree
| |
Can't believe I'm saying this but that tacked on piano during the outro is a complete rip off of Golden Number by Ghost Bath.
Though the album it appears on is a complete rip off of Sunbather in general.
| |
meh, average as always
| |
why are people arguing about fadeouts? sheesh
| |
bc music criticism
| |
k
| |
sux like all their stuff
| |
I like their new-found bleakness; however, they don't stand out like they used to. They lost a lot of the hazy shoegaze blur.
| |
Songs pretty awesome I dig the guitar parts
| |
Song is amazing, nice bit darker sound to the normal shoegazey sound
| |
pretty lame in all fairness, gave it a decent amount of listens. it's just boring and nothing really sticks out. the beginning was ok i guess but it doesn't consist of anything that hasn't been done a million times in better bm. the second section was just kinda there, didn't do much for me
how these guys got so huge baffles me
| |
great song but yeah, the ending is kinda clumsy
| |
really like how dark and intense the first like 3 minutes are. wish the rest of the song carried that momentum
| |
That riff at the end is nice. I forgot how much I actually enjoyed this band
| |
very underwhelming. hypez has died. oh noes.
| |
Nah bruh DFHVN Hype Train still running hard
| |
everything about it was just totally indistinct and bland, couldn't stand the vocals and the riffs just rolled right by me without any impact
listened like four times now and i don't care for a fifth
| |
@Noctus I remember your Sunbather review and if I remember correctly you weren't exactly a fan, so shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that you don't enjoy the new track.
| |
Btw I just read that and thought that might come off a little douchy, I meant that in a polite way, maybe there will be other tracks you enjoy more
| |
i really liked what sunbather was going for, and there were some really stunning moments on it, i just think the songwriting and pacing needed a lot of fine-tuning
was hoping this album would be that but i'm not expecting that much now. it doesn't sound like they meaningfully built on the potential sunbather had. hoping this is one of the weaker tracks.
for what it's worth, i can totally see and appreciate what people saw in sunbather. the album just lost me in its pacing and in the songs on the latter half of the album.
| |
shit
| |
Starts and ends well, but dear god, the leads in the middle are fucking horrendous holy shit
| |
yeah the leads remind me of Ghost Bath
thats not good, GB is a carbon copy of Sunbather.
the track "golden number"
| |
so you're saying deafheaven sound like deafheaven? Good to know.
| |
agreed hard with noctus
| |
NEW DEAFHEAVEN SONG AND IT IS THE SHIZZ
| |
new song is trash
| |
make a news item you doink
| |
Not trash
| |
so good. i also get a very strong mazzy star vibe for some reason when the shoegaze starts
| |
Done. Yay! I learned a thing
| |
New song is tits.
I don't get why so many people try so hard to hate this band. Their loss, I suppose.
| |
That second half though
| |
who are you referring to?
wasn't into the new track either, i doubt i'll bother listening to this when it comes out
| |
People complain about Sunbather because it "wasn't black metal"
People complain about New Bermuda because "not enough shoegaze"
Brain cannot process.
New Bermuda is going to rule. Their two new songs are great, but "Come Back" REALLY caught my ear. I've had it on repeat for about 2 hours straight.
| |
^those two groups of people aren't the same
hope i helped
| |
Noctus, I didn't mean Sputnik so much as just droves of people on social media. I mean, there is probably more support than hate, but it seems the poles are more extreme with this band than any others in recent memory. People actively seek to hate them and call them hipster metal, which is fucking stupid.
| |
bm dudes complained about sunbather not being krieg enough. Understandable.
Sunbather lovers complained about new tracks not having the elements that made them love Sunbather--and therefore Dfhvn--in the first place. Also understandable.
The criticism really isn't that hard to figure out. There're by far the biggest bm band in North America and they've gotten tons of mainstream exposure, so their getting a lot of criticism isn't really surprising given that a metric buttload more people actually know about them than they do pretty much any other bm band.
| |
i can't find the new song. fackkkk
| |
nvm found it. yay
| |
prob sucks just like this one
| |
new song is tits.
| |
i like it more than this one fer sherr
| |
yeah the new track is pree sick
| |
New track is more roads to judah than sunbather, which is cool cos i love both
| |
having first half bm and second half post-rock is kind lazy tho tbh. I wish they'd stuffed another crescendo in at the end.
| |
I can almost agree with that. If I didn't like both halves so much, I might want a little bit more.
| |
actually liked the second half far less than the first, I thought it was some of the most boring post-rock I've heard in a while
| |
pretty underwhelming song.
| |
