Man, bad news for Opeth. How will they recover from this?
|
| |
Wow, this is really sad news
However, I think they will be able to recover from this. After losing Lopez, they got Axenrot...
Åkesson seems as if he could fulfill the job well.
Still...
|
| |
WHAT? WHAAAAAT?! NO NO NO NO.
|
| |
Oh noes....
|
| |
I dunno, these two new members might bring something new to the table.
|
| |
In a few weeks, they'll probably announce Mikael's departure...
|
| |
^^ but mikael IS opeth! and if mikael leaves, it means..................... NO MORE OPETH!
oh noes.........
|
| |
got'em
|
| |
Meh, sucks.
If the new record is not on their usual level of quality, they should quit.
|
| |
This is fucking horrible. Now Mikael is the only old member left. Plus, Lindgren was so damn good.
I'm really scared for this new album now.
|
| |
martin mendez? not the absolute original but i can't really imagine opeth without him.
|
| |
Yeah, the moment Mendez quits the band, I'll give up on them completely.
|
| |
thats too bad, but as long as mikael is still in opeth then its all good
|
| |
Fredrik Åkesson seems like a nice pick up, but that really sucks. I think the new album is still going to be good though.
|
| |
I'm sure it won't really matter if the album is good or not; Opeth fanboys are among the most prevalent and there will be at least 15% of the total ratings that are 5's (or however that makes grammatical sense)
On that note, I've only heard Blackwater Park, and I can safely say that is one of the most disappointing albums ever when it comes to living up to the hype.
|
| |
There may be Opeth fanboys here but a lot of the more established members also like Opeth. :O
|
| |
still, akesson is a good replacement
|
| |
Didn't see that coming.
Can't say I care though
|
| |
Kinda sad even though im not a fan...so...meh
|
| |
That sucks for the fans on here, i don't know enough about them to comprehend exactly how bad this/or isn't.
|
| |
Fuck.
Oh a good note, Fredrik Akesson is a very good player but I am not sure how he will fit into Opeth.
|
| |
OH MY GOD THIS IS SO HORRIBLE WHAT WILL THEY EVER DO
|
| |
BREAKING NEWS!
Heartbreaking news.
I'm sad now
|
| |
This could turn out really bad. I loved Lindgren's solo style.
|
| |
You know, I just can't imagine Frederik in this band. Granted, he's a great guitarist, but Arch Enemy and Opeth don't mix one bit.
|
| |
God ****ing dammit. What's with all the Opeth members leaving?
A lot of times when band members start leaving that means the band has changed their style up a bit. I hope Opeth isn't heading down a crappy path. I've never seen Opeth live and I was hoping to see them with most of the original members. This isn't as much of a loss as Lopez was, though.
|
| |
I find this interesting. I really can't wait for the new album to come out and see what all the people here say about it. It should be fun.
To all of those who are dying cuz of this news: my condolences
|
| |
the sky is falling!
|
| |
This Sucks big time.
|
| |
:'[
|
| |
It's gonna be hard to match up with Peter. I hope the new guy will be just as good.
|
| |
Honestly, good for him. Of course the band feels a pain, but at the same time its great theyre going to stay friends and support eachother. Great bands like Opeth can break by letting their emotions give into a breakup, so you can tell their future is still bright with their mature reaction to this.
|
| |
....damn.....
and AE is a pretty different band, akesson's style is more completely death metal, i wonder if he'll have any effect on the band?
....i'm curious now, but a bit worried.
|
| |
akesson is beast and a half, but i don't know how his style will work for opeth, he is more on the shredder side while opeth is more melodic. i hate to see anything bad happen to opeth, but at least peter's departure is justified.
|
| |
lol. This band is so screwed. I was going to give it a chance when Lopez left, but Peter too?
Can anybody say "sinking ship?"
|
| |
Opeth is fallin apart, but being rebuilt in completely different way. Exited and scared to hear they're new album. I kinda get the feeling that its gonna be more straigt up death metal, cause you got a guy from Bloodbath, and one from arche enemy.. Definatly gonna blend in more death metal. Nodoubt.
|
| |
Feel the same as above...
|
| |
I'm looking foward to hearing the new direction they'll be taking. I wasn't feeling Ghost Reveries.
|
| |
I felt Ghost Reveries every time I took it out of the CD case, AHAHAHAH *slaps knee*
But seriously, I think Ghost Reveries is an excellent album. It's different, but that's supposed to be the point with a prog band isn't it.
|
| |
holy crap this sucks!
|
| |
I am outraged at his departure.
That is not a suitable replacement as far as I'm concerned.
|
| |
Are some of you guys stupid or what....the guy played with the band for almost 16 years, let him move on.
The old material is forever anyway, and who knows the new stuff might be outstanding. We just don't know...
|
| |
FUCK! This is bad news. But im willing to give this new guy a chance since he is highly respected by Mikael Åkerfeldt as a great guitarist.
|
| |
You know, I just can't imagine Frederik in this band. Granted, he's a great guitarist, but Arch Enemy and Opeth don't mix one bit.
Just because he was in Arch Enemy doesn't mean he's going to play the same style as he did there. Who's really to say whether or not he can fit in well with whatever direction Opeth decide to take?
He was only ever filling in for Arch Enemy anyway, he never contributed to any of their albums. He just filled in for Christopher Amott on tour the past couple of years.
|
| |
People Listen.. Mikael would not have it any other way than perfect for the next record. Please have some faith!! Just curious who would yall like to see replace Peter ??
|
| |
Hostile101,
Thats a hard question to answer because Peter was an underrated, one-of-a-kind guitarist. He is irreplaceable if Opeth chooses to go in the same direction as their past albums (which they wont obviously). But if you had to ask me, I would say that Frederik is a good choice because I saw him play with Arch Enemy (fucking amazing guitarist).
|
| |
I hope the influence of the record label has nothing to do with that
|
| |
hmmm, akesson's style is more doom metal though.
|
| |
You guys are all way to worried. Mikael writes 99% of Opeths music, it's his band. Besides Opeth could stand to vary their style a little. I mean Ghost Reveries had keyboards but besides that their style hasnt really changed since My Arms Your Hearse. This will be a change but one that could work out for the better. I mean Orchid and Morningrise featured a much differnt Opeth but Morningrise is my favorite Opeth album so far. When they changed styles on My Arms they were still great. Now its just time for another change. This Message Edited On 06.28.07

jeez...i wonder if they can continue making their legendary music
|
| |
yes, they are a progressive band after all and they haven't stood still musically one bit.
