New album next year?

2006-03-31 by Alex101 | 25 Comments
Could this be a possible April Fools joke?

Some rumors believe that System of a Down is already writing a new studio album. The album will be the the follow up to last year's critically acclaimed double release Mezmerize/Hypnotize.

However, there is no official word by System of a Down that they have plans to record the new album yet, but fans believe it would likely happen sometime before the end of this year or sometime next year. So, that would make it a 2007 release. It is also not known wether Rick Rubin (who has produced every System of a Down album since their 1998 self-titled debut) will be producing it or not.

This summer, System of a Down will be kicking off on tour with Ozzfest, an annual tour featuring heavy metal bands, created by original Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne.

Wow, never heard they might come out with a new album. Seems a little too quick though, I still havent gotten bored of Mesmerize and Hypnotize yet.

Meh, they're at the peak of their popularity, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them try and boost on that with a quickly released album.

This seems like a bad idea, they're definately pushing their luck with a third release in such a short space of time.

I don't know 2007 is two or three years after the recording of Mesmerize and Hypnotize was recorded at the same time so it has been a little while since they recorded. As long as they don't put out a real stinker I'm all for a new CD.

I heard about this in Kerrang months ago when they interviewed Serj. Its supposed to be the third in the Mezmerize/hypnotize series, or so I read.

I thought they were going on a break after Ozzfest and Daron was going to do his solo project.
Oh well, I just hope they take their time with it. I don't want a rushed SOAD album.

I don't think can top Mezmerize/Hypnotize because those albums are AMAZING!!!! They should be pretty good at OZZFEST to. I do hope this rumor album is good if it comes out though.

I'd probably care if their last few albums weren't such a bore. But as a matter of fact, they were. This Message Edited On 04.01.06

I did not really like Hypnotize/mezmerize apart from some single songs. I think they should take their time releasing and writing a new album. Good things usually need time

i think their probably coming out with songs and rehearsing them for now, most bands do that, then they wait and see what their previous album did for them and wait 2 years...then release then new album

They should take their time if they are going to start writing a new album. It should be better than Hypnotize/Mezmerize if they are going to make a new one.

I swear if it is a third in the Hypnotize/Mesmerize series, It better have more material than both of those albums put together. What's more, they'll blatantly release a box set of all 3 for under 20 quid, but I would've payed 45 for all three individually. You god damn rock stars with your get rich quick schemes......

I think they should shell out another album soon. Serj is getting old, and even between the release of STA! and Hypnotize/Mezmerize, he has grown to look very old and frail, and System isn't the kind of music written and performed by old and frail folks, y'know?

Well if they go back towards their S/T and Toxicity I'm all for it. I didn't like their last two cd's that much. Their Material On their First two cd's were much stronger than either of the last two, Daron Smoked to much weed and thought that we would like the utter crap that filled Mesmerize and Hypnotize.

I guess since I posted the above comment twice I should clarify my point just a bit. I bought Mesmerize and I listened to it quite a bit. It just didn't grab me like their first two releases Did, I like maybe three tracks off of the Cd. I didn't like Mesmerize as a whole I didn't even bother acquiring Hypnotize, because I thought it would be more of the same..This Message Edited On 04.06.06

Hypnotize wasn't a good album. System of a down should take their time to write an album worth buying than record some crap like Hypnotize.

I think it would b a great idea for s.o.a.d to release a new album, there are many controversial issues which need 2 b protested, they are at their all time best n i think they have the right to show off a lil!

I definitely read that they have written alot of new material (enough to fit an album) and a new album isn't very out of the question at all, but I think they will wait off the combined 23 songs from Mezmerize/Hypnotize that without a doubt over-whelmed me
