I think it's done tastefully, and Weezer has NEVER been known for deeper meaning in lyrics. I don't mind a direct approach occasionally.

Stage 2: Hey this single is surprisingly not awful. I might listen to the album just to see if they don't completely fuck it up.

Stage 3: Wow, guys, this actually isn't too bad. I'm going to probably rate it either a 3 or a 3.5, but it has potential to grow.

Stage 4: (6 months to a year later) This grew off me a little but it's still okay I guess.

Stage 5: (1 or more years later) Who gives a fuck about Weezer? Album is shit lol butts.

Stage 6: Oh a new Weezer album is in the works again? This is going to be so awful. Weezer needs to stop embarrassing themselves.

I've been let down by these guys too many times to get my hopes up. I'll give it a shot, but for the time being, my expectations will remain in the dirt.

I enjoy the lack of subtlety here. It's like they're saying, "we fucked up! We get it." And wrote a kick ass song. It seems sincere.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit. I have high hopes for this album. I'm not ashamed to say that I enjoy a lot of weezer's stuff (even on their shittier albums).

kinda meh for me. I really loved Memories when it first came out but this hasn't stuck once yet but then I'm not super against anything post-Pinkerton so I'll still remain optimistic :P

It feels like they're blaming the fact that they strayed too far away from rock rather than the fact that they started making bad songs with this. Kind of like a rockist sort of attitude which is just annoying to me. I haven't heard much from these guys but I know Memories which was a much better song than this
