Sucks, but I'm sure they'll find a good replacement. Must be hard as hell to have a family, full-time job, and on top of that write music, record, and tour with the band.

Sad, but it's good that he knows his priorities.
|
| |
That sucks. I've seen them live twice. This guy is a great drummer. Really underrated.
"Sucks, but I'm sure they'll find a good replacement."
Agreed
|
| |
Band isn't that good anyway so who cares
|
| |
Pleb being a Pleb, nothing to see here
|
| |
Very great drummer. Glad they didn't part on bad terms.
|
| |
I kind of agree with Pleb but at least its on good terms. Last album was indeed a bore, one before that, just good.
|
| |
Drumming on Dead End Kings was sweet, sad to see this guy go.
|
| |
Band was always just Jonas and Anders and some session musicians for the most part.
|
| |
This guy was with the band for almost 15 years.
|
| |
Yeah he was the only other real long term member, along with the Norman brothers. They've gone through
quite a few members though over the years.
|
| |
I'd like to know how much someone in a band like this (decently popular metal band) actually makes from their music/touring. Obviously not enough to live on, hence most metal musicians having full-time jobs, but I'd still be curious.
|
| |
I didn't expect them to be in sports cars or luxury houses but I still thought these guys made enough to get by on. Damn
|
| |
Not even Kataonia bro, not even Katatonia. Akerfedt is probably stealing their profits, hence why they are broke.
|
| |
"I didn't expect them to be in sports cars or luxury houses but I still thought these guys made enough to get by on. Damn"
Yeah I'm pretty surprised myself, they are very well known and liked.
|
| |
That sucks. I've seen them live twice. This guy is a great drummer. Really underrated.
Yup. Seen 'em twice also.
And what Captain said. You gotta be pretty fuckin' big to make money from playing music.
Like Bring Me The Horizon big.
|
| |
Akerfeldt sold his soul to the devil, it's obvious, and it's even more obvious that he's behind the Illuminati so of course he's rich.
|
| |
Dr. Balls
|
| |
ALIENS!!!
|
| |
agreed that the dude is underrated and is awesome live. think i've seen them 3 times now and i'm always fixated by his drumming. also, teargas has a great drum beat. one of my favorites
|
| |
I really liked his drummed, it certainly added up to the band's music.
Good luck to the guy in his future endeavours.
|
| |
Drumming was never the highlight of their music anyway. He was a good drummer but its not a huge loss.
|
| |
I bet the band is in a whole lot of financial trouble.
|
| |
why do you say that? also, i feel like jonas and the guitarist probs make more money since they write the songs? i have no idea the financials of the band or how they work but thats just a thought
|
| |
How do I know that? It's an educated guess seeing as no one in this band is big enough on their own to make a "livable" amount of money as a musician and the fact that the entire world is one big inflation bubble ready to burst at the seams. The ways of touring for long periods of time are over (look at how long tours used to run 20 years ago vs. now) and that's really the only way these bands can get by as a band. Katatonia doesn't tour often enough and therefore doesn't make money and therefore my guess is that they're hurting financially enough where the guy had to quit to make ends meet.
|
| |
you're probably right. i wasn't trying to disagree, i was just wondering what your reasoning was, and i must say thats some fine reasoning. its a shame too bc once these dudes get families they don't want to tour as much and thus can't make as much money
|
| |
Dude Karl Katatonia tour a lot iirc they went on like 2 north american tours just last year.
|
| |
they tour more than opeth
|
| |
People should realize the only way to make big bucks in music is radio play. A band or performer makes around 12 to 17 cents per 1000 people a radio station reaches. A top ten hit can mint millions. Itunes and streaming music sites pay thousandanths of a cent per play or single download. Gross, a gross way to make a living.
|
| |
Considering how often Katatonia sticks to the same tempo and 6/8 time signature I always admired this drummer's constant efforts to come up with new ways to groove along. Pretty inspiring.
|
| |
His drumming on The Great Cold Distance is amazing.
|
| |
I am pretty sure they can make enough money to support only themselves, but when it comes to a kid + other family members, yeah it gets hard.
lead singer from as I lay dying made like 100k in like 12' or 13'.
wouldn't be surprised if the non-main members of this band gets ~28k a year.
|
| |
I totally disagree with the people who are saying drumming wasn't the highlight in Katatonia, etc. Liljekvist really made the last few albums IMO. He had some of the most tasteful polyrhythmic playing. It gave Katatonia that bit of clinical technicality that balanced out the lush and melodramatic aspects of their sound.
