"Brand new"
probably not a good way to word that.
| |
Probably why I changed it
| |
I really hate seeing the words "brand new" in the music news unless its an article about Brand New.
| |
Oh, that was quick.
| |
decent song
| |
I'm legitimately surprised it's not the 18-minute first part of a 9-part suite
| |
Hello Deviant, thank you for proofreading my text. I'm trying to improve my english, hope next time will be cleaner and concise. By the way, your edits have elegantly smoothed and polished it.
| |
No probs!
| |
Oh, and sorry for the wrong link html tag!^^ I'll make sure to input /a next time instead of /url.
| |
I completely forget they were releasing a new song today! listening now
| |
It was a Dream Theater song. I enjoyed it, because i'm a fan of their sound, but if you're hoping for some variation then NOPE.
| |
Ugh boring
| |
A bit boring, the other song was better.
| |
Okay has JP gone deaf, there's no way the final albums production is going to sound like this, this is 64kbps
| |
Who's along fort he DT ride?
| |
mostly the keyboards bothered me. We all know what happened to Beneath the Surface.
| |
wtf is up with the drums did they even use a real kit?
| |
does it really bother you that much? What is reality in a world that hates it?
| |
Did it bother people with St. Anger?
| |
I would think St. Anger is...well, St. Anger. Not much has to be said about it.
| |
The production and mixing are beyond horrible though
| |
Could they really make that big of a mistake? I suppose everyone but I will give this a 2.0 or lower. I might give a 3.0 for this, assuming the epic will save the whole album.
| |
I heard the song once, its a typical cliche ballad but it seems better than the ballads on adtoe as well as the other single
| |
Good ballad. This album seems solid so far
| |
I heard snippets of the epic and the instrumentals on youtube, and so far they sound really good to me. There's a hope they'll save the album.
| |
title is accurate
| |
Not bad, lyrics are god-awful as usual.
| |
Production sounds like chocolate cake that someone has stepped on and smushed into the ground
| |
Wasn't a huge fan on first listen but this song is a grower and I think it's pretty damn good for a recent dt ballad. Myung's bass with the keyboard solo is sweet! I think it'll work better on the album though as a breather before the big epic.
| |
Keyboard solo is pretty cool
| |
Dat title
I like this; Petrucci is unusually tasteful
The keyboard solo is horrible tho
| |
Yeah this was bad
| |
Cheesy.
| |
It was alright
| |
Not the best, actually it bored me a lot
| |
Sounds a lot like a Metropolis, Pt. 2: SFaM ballad. Not bad. The production's still shockingly weak for a DT album, but it's not nearly as poorly recorded as The Enemy Inside.
| |
Good song. Sounds better than ADTOA. What the hell is with the production on the drums.
I also enjoyed Rudess' keyboard. Probably the only person on the planet but whatevs.
| |
They actually did also a track by track interview, with Petrucci and LaBrie, posted 5 days ago.
Petrucci described the featured song as being the second song, along with 'Looking Glass', to have a different vibe from the rest of the album. He's also stated it as "almost like a new anthem for DT. It has this sort of free spirit, sing along kind of ... you can picture it live, you can picture everybody joining in... and the message to that song is very much like: with all that crazy stuff that happens in the world, all that dagerous events and people out there, and things going on... that we don't have a lot of control over that, on this big planet we're all 'along for the ride'.
The interview can be watched in full content here:

| |
s**t... it's one of their ballads
| |
Isn't that the same shitty casio keyboard sound Rudess dredged up for Beneath The Surface and ruined the song on the last album?
| |
This was hard to sit through for me. While I consider myself a fan of their work, the ballads are too much sometimes. I don't have a problem with the drum production at all. Enemy Inside was awesome. I hope the other songs compare.
| |
^Beneath the Surface was awesome man! Probably a top 5 ballad from them. If you give this a chance and listen a few times, that actually quite a lot going on in this for a ballad type song.
| |
Vocals are really loud. Overall the track is a bit too standard sounding.
| |
Can't imagine this album being higher than a 3.0
| |
People do realize it's an extremely low bitrate soundcloud stream right -_- different element don't compress well, some worse than others, and people are really trying to say something on the production?
otherwise nothing special clearly needs to be heard as part of a full album playthrough to even hope for a leg to stand on.
| |
3.0, most likely. they tend to nail their 20+ minute epics 90% of the time and they haven't screwed up a single instrumental as of yet.
| |
I'm guessing a 3.5 or 4 for me. Don't expect them to screw up the epic, but really hope the instrumental is good.
| |
Its sad that they're still doing the ballad thing. Its prog, you don't need an exclusive softer song to show diversity.
| |
Along for the ride to mediocre prog metal. I think they're in the driving seat
| |
The only DT album that needed a ballad was Scenes.
| |
I would agree with you there, omair. Although the majority of the other tracks will be heavy and proggy so I think this will serve as a nice break after those and before the 22 min epic. otherwise it would get too much I think.
| |
could these snare and bass drum samples be any worse? i haven't heard a snare that irritating in a really long time and the bass drum is laughably clicky
| |
MM really is a machine
| |
production rules here wtf
| |
meh its ok
album will probs be a 3-3.5 the way it's going now
| |
"from their upcoming, self-titled, album, entitled 'Along For The Ride'. "
You really don't need a single comma there
| |
Thanks for the advice CK!
| |
Not, a, problem right, CK?
| |
cool, story bro. all, good right?
| |
I love CK,
it has some great perfumes
| |
@green: Yup everything is good right, better than when it was good, right.
| |
They should have called it quits ten years ago. They'll have a legacy regardless but their new stuff just isn't bringing anything new to the table in quality.
That being said, I like this better than the other song but wtf is up with the drums?
| |
"They should have called it quits ten years ago."
| |
Systematic Chaos was so awful.
| |
production overall is as bad as miley cyrus
| |
At least invite MP back just to be a producer, christ.
| |
Production was never really great when the band started self producing (maybe JR should help
producing), but theres no way the final album can sound this bad, this is leaked music quality.
| |
Fuck this band.
| |
I think they fucked themselves
| |
At least the song lengths are reasonable, minus the 20 minute track of course. And the album isn't as long as the CD can hold. Those are improvements
| |
fucking fools granted I haven't heard it but I'm sure its garbage
| |
I haven't heard the album, but even I can guarantee the quality will be much better. The Enemy Inside stream quality sucked too, though the itunes version was a big improvement I thought.
As for the music itself.. people will never be happy. I remember a few years back with Systematic Chaos/Black Clouds people were complaining about the songs being too wanky/long/OTT for the sake of it and now that they're finally making more structured songs again, people are still bitching. You can't say the album will suck based off a ballad song that is clearly not indicative of the album whatsoever. It's a solid song, not amazing but I reckon it's probably most likely gonna be the weakest on the album. From day 1, DT have always had ballads on EVERY album.
I don't mean to be bitchy, if people don't like it that's fine, it's just that people are complaining about things (e.g. more structured songs) that have been done this way due to backlash against the opposite things (complexity over songwriting).
| |
Song's too standard for its own good.
Adult Oriented "Progressive" Rock.
| |
aint bad
| |
Sounds a bit like Images & Words
| |
Song has grown a bit on me since first few listens. I mean its by no means a groundbreaking song, but in terms of being a DT ballad its on par with most of their other stuff. Id compare it to Another Day from I&W, which was the weakest song on that album.
| |
This is nowhere near Another Day for me
| |
^^^
Sadly.
