P!ATD Drummer Heads To Rehab

2013-08-12 by andcas | 48 Comments
Panic! At The Disco drummer Spencer Smith has taken a break from the band in order to enter rehab for treatment. He recently came out with the news about secretly fighting a four year addiction to prescription drugs and alcohol.

In his confession Smith gives the following explanation of how he wound up as an addict:
"little over 2 years ago, something traumatic happened in regards to the health of a loved one. It was around this time that I started taking Vicodin and Xanax on a daily basis. It was an intoxicating mix. … When we got off the tour we were doing for our last record, I slipped further into my addiction. With a lot more alone time and no worry of being presentable at an interview or a meet & greet, my life began to revolve around my addiction.”

Vocalist Brendon Urie will continue on Panic! At The Disco's future tours with a drum replacement until his best friend and bandmate reaches a safe point of recovery. Urie has also addressed fans in a sincere open letter on the band's website to let everyone know what the status was, is, and will be as they deal with this crisis.

Sucks about the addiction, but at least he's getting help. And this is a really good song, gives me back some hope for the album. Video was cool too.

I thought their last album was an improvement over Pretty. Odd. but based on the two songs released, I think this album will suck on a similar level to P.O. Doesn't matter, though. Only Panic album you really need is AFYCSO.

Damn catchy track, another track that evokes memories of college for me. Sucks about Spencer, though. Wish him the best.

Why are you only saying Brendon will continue? Is the bassist not?

"they have another guy in the band but they never bother to really mention him, include him, or take pictures with him so why should I? also vices and virtues is every bit as good as their first album."

Word, I didn't realize that. And yeah Vices rules. I still like A Fever a bit more, but I really dig these guys - always a fun listen.
