Rage Against The Machine Add Dates

2007-02-25 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 15 Comments
Just weeks after confirming the band's reunion for a special "one-off" show at the Coachella Valley Festival in California on April 29, Rage Against The Machine have added three more dates, this time in support of Wu-Tang Clan.

Wu-Tang Clan, who have also recently re-united for a new album, their first since the death of Ol' Dirty Bastard, are headlining Rock The Bells, the three-date hip-hop festival that takes place across the US through July and August.

"Rage will do four shows and just four in 2007," said Chang Weisberg, the founder of Guerilla Union and organizer of Rock the Bells. "Coachella is first, that's the granddaddy. And now these three with the Wu-Tang Clan represent a very, very special thing." The group reportedly organised the additional dates in response to the high prices being charged for scalped tickets for the Coachella gig.

The first date of the Rock The Bells tour takes place in New York on July 28, hitting San Bernardino, Southern California on August 11 and finally San Francisco on August 18, and together with the Coachella date will mark the foursome's first performance together since splitting in 2000.

Morello discussed the political reasoning behind the band's decision to play together again: "Is it a coincidence that in the seven years that Rage Against The Machine has been away that the country has slid into right-wing purgatory? I think not.

"It occurred to all of us that the times were right to see if we can knock the Bush administration out in one fell swoop, and we hope to do that job well."

It's early days yet, but some political analysts have already begun to suggest that, should the concert run turn out to be a success, the Bush administration may not seek a third term in the 2008 election.

I totally didn't realize that Bush winning was entirely reliant on RATM disbanding. You learn something new everyday!

If RATM had been the ones to go into Cuba, Cuba wouldn't be communist anymore.

Wait....

once bush's term ends in 2008, so many people are going to be claiming victory for driving him out of office.

I love these guys. Even with their crazy political views, they make some damn good music.

Hehe. I like how their solution is to play a bunch of gigs in California.

"If we can give the Democrats California, they're SURE to win!!"

Yeah, they most likely wouldn't come to Canada, even on a massive tour, because they'd be too busy "revolutionizing" the US, so all I can hope for is a new album.
