New Chevelle in April

2007-01-13 by Jom | 13 Comments
Chevelle's Vena Sera is slated for an April 3rd release.

The album was recorded with producer Elvis Baskette, who has worked with Chevelle on their two most recent albums, Wonder What's Next and This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In).

The album's tracklisting is as follows:

01. Antisaint
02. Brainiac
03. Saferwaters
04. Well Enough Alone
05. Straight Jacket Fashion
06. The Fad
07. Humanoid
08. Paint The Seconds
09. Midnight To Midnight
10. I Get It
11. Saturdays

As previously reported in October 2006, frontman Pete Loeffler firmly stated that the new album is going to be "heavy as shit."

We're gonna have vintage tones on this record. We're trying to move away from that more typical modern-rock sound and trying to get better tones on this record. Everything is going to sound better, and the music will be a little more focused. I don't know where the landscape of rock is right now, but I don't think it's in a good place. If you do one thing and you do it well, eventually it will come back around for you. I don't know about other bands, but we're sticking to what we know and love.

What the hell is he talking about? That was almost incoherent. First he blabs on about "tones" and then he directly contradicts himself by saying "We're trying to move away from that more typical modern-rock sound" and then he says "we're sticking to what [we always do]."

So, all I can garner is that when he says "modern rock sound" he is talking about the guitar tone and that basically the only change on this album is his guitar tone. GG.

there's more to modern rock than the guitar tone. there's the drum line and the bass. he obviouslly means their trying for a more hard rock or metal sound.

i.e. avenged sevenfold

Uhm...did you not see the point I was making?

He clearly said in the quote that musically they are still doing the same thing, and yet they are trying to move away from the modern-rock sound. So which one is it?

You can always expect this:

"We have many new influences. We're going to try something totally new, but stay true to ourselves".

I just ignore most of these announcements now.

I'm curious to see what they do. I honestly sense some solid potential in these guys. If nothing else, they could at least be great song-writers. I did all 3 of their LP's, but something is holding them back...

I liked the vibe in Point #1, but no so much in their last album... which I don't even remember how it's called. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this.

I hope they start doing some of their Toolish kinda of music like they did on Point #1.

First off... point #1 was a very sick record... Wonder What's Next was pretty solid, and this type of thinking could do us in had its moments... Second... sam and pete royaslly screwed their brother Joe over by kicking him out of the band... Lastly , Kage is right in saying that Pete's quote was completely senceless. Maybe he was really high when the said that trash which alot of times equates to good music so I guess we have that to hope for.
