U2 to Change Their Sound? 2007-01-02 by Jom | 12 Comments | Legendary rock act U2 will supposedly be undergoing some heavy sound changes when it heads to the studio to record its newest album.
Frontman Bono recently sat down with BBC Radio, stating that he and his bandmates plan on making "major artistic changes." After going back to a rock-slanted vibe with All That You Can't Leave Behind and How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, Bono has gone on record saying his band's sound is "not going to stay where it is." How to Dismantle..., which was released in 2004, was the last studio album from U2.

I knew this was coming. And its most welcome and will be interesting to hear what they come up with.
| | | Believe it or not, every popular band ever says crap like this before they record/release an album regardless of what they are sounding like at the time
This is one reason why they continue to sell records
| | | ^Agreed.
| | | I bet a squillion buckeroos that the new album sounds the same as every other thing U2 have put out, how much can they change?, seriuously?
| | | ^ I don't understand all the cynicism. They did Boy, October, and War, then changed there sound. They did the Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, and Rattle & Hum, then changed once again. Achtung Baby, Zooropa, and POP, and then did a a two hundred-seventy degree turn of sorts and came back with something different yet again for All That You Can't Leave Behind. This is nothing new for U2 and is one of the things that attracts me to the band. They will change significantly but they will remain essentially U2, whatever they do. That is one of the unique things about this group. This Message Edited On 01.03.07

Achtung Baby, Zooropa, and POP, and then did a a two hundred 70 degree turn of sorts and came back with something different yet again for All That You Can't Leave Behind. This is nothing new for U2 and is one of the things that attracts me to the band. They will change significantly but they will remain essentially U2, whatever they do. Everything after Joshua that you mentioned is completely overrated and only progressed in that the band moved in an even more mainstream direction on each release. I place those "maturing changes" more on studio work and PR than the actual band.
| | | they are going nu-metal
| | | I'll drink to that
| | | black metal i hope ... or hip hop
| | | its true that every band says they are changing their sound, but I think U2 can and might.
| | | This is gonna be preety weird.
| | | I would like to see them do more songs like Bullet the blue sky, a bit heavier.
But ever since I've heard "Windows in the skies" I doubt it -_- Damn that song sucked.
