My problem isn't stylistic either. The problem with this album is not its poppiness, the problem is its poopiness. It sounds like no work was put into writing, producing, or any part of making this album. I'm not necessarily saying it was a cashgrab, but something is wrong. This band is capable of a lot with their poppy sound, as shown in their 2009 album. Naturally, their next step would be a pop album, but this is mindless, soulless drivel. I hope this is a malicious, belated April Fool's joke to be totally honest.

compared to their new stuff 'el cielo' IS phenomenal. also 'the ornament' was already on their live cd ages ago.

The version of The Ornament on the new CD isn't great either. It really worked so much better in the stripped down setting offered by the live album; there's none of that incredible emotional resonance that made it stand out in the first place.

I saw this band live recently with circa survive and I remember them playing this and I remember thinking idk how people like this band they are terrible. This is why. It's their new material. Never heard the old stuff.

I will definitely buy the cd when it releases, even if it is terrible, because dredg is one of my favorite bands and I want to support them.

kk, so i DID give this album a listen... i'd say 3 is about right. half of it is pretty catchy and enjoyable, the other half is just bland.

El Cielo wasn't even anything that special to begin with. Over-hyped band if you ask me.

El Cielo is overrated, but still an excellent album, and this song is trash. I just gave up on this band from this point on.

Gavin's voice makes it more enjoyable than it actually is, so I'm not sure if I could listen through a whole album of this.

Nah, not really. The Tent stands out to me as the pinnacle of shit on that album. That one is truly the definition of a completely lifeless and utterly useless song.

I actually liked Another Tribe, Upon Returning, and The Thought of Losing You. The last couple tracks weren't completely unbearable either. But the "The Tent/Somebody Is Laughing/Down Without a Fight" stretch of the album is truly awful.

Yeah, Upon Returning is the best song here. It actually sounds like a dredg track, afterall, albeit an average one. This album has actually inspired me to write a review. Think I'll give that a shot.
