I don't think he has been "good" for like 10 years now, and even then I've never thought he was a great lyricist or anything. Guy just knew how to make a hit. His west coast babble really doesn't work anymore imo. Love the guy, but all the new stuff has been mediocre.

As much as I love his music, his last two albums were pretty average to bad. Blue Carpet Treatment ruled everything though. This album kicks some ass too

I've heard almost all of his albums, and I think they're all pretty great. His second and third albums were easily his least enjoyable if you ask me, and I think his newer stuff sounds more matured, but nothing touches his debut.
