2011-02-09 by Alex Newton | 40 Comments
Atlanta metal band Mastodon have announced that their upcoming live release, Live at the Aragon, will be released on March 15 as both a CD and DVD.

Filmed in October 2009 during their 'Crack the Skye' tour, it will be the band's first DVD release since The Workhorse Chronicles and their first ever to capture a full live show.

Actually Mastodon put on a pretty boring live show. That's coming from a massive fanboy of this band. Still will get this anyway.

They put on a great show as far as the music is concerned but it's not much more exciting than watching a DVD of them...hey, what do you know?

Well yea music wise they are great, but I hope they have a awesome editor because it won't be that entertaining to watch is what I am saying. I have seen then 3 times so I think I know enough.

for anyone who didn't see them live, their entire crack the skye set has an awesome trippy video in the background for added entertainment value

Just depends on what you are looking for in a live show. It's more than enough for some people to just head bang and hear the music, but some people want the frontman to be leaping into the crown. Mastodon doesn't do a whole lot live but play the music and visuals, but for me at least that is enough which is why I think they are a great show.

no they are a bad show they use visuals to distract from the fact that all they do is pose on their amps and shred away for an hour and a half.

lol, so true
one of the most boring bands to see live and 'Crack the Skye' is my least favorite album by them, too bad they chose this tour for a live DVD

They really should have done a Workhorse Chronicles pt. 2 for Blood Mountain and Crack The Skye. This setlist honestly sucks, they should have had one of the early ones on the tour - Mastodon at Manchester Academy, England, for one had an excellent setlist. And of all the Blood Mountain songs, why Circle Cysquatch? Almost anything else from that album is better.

i was front row for crack the skye tour and they raped as far as there playing went, and their bassist and drummer were exciting as fuck. Plus bill handed me his pick and it doesnt look anything like the collecters ones they are selling with this, it was green with a technicolor portrait of bill
