New RHCP Album in June

2011-01-20 by renegadestrings | 76 Comments
Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, announced that the band's new record will be released this June. Smith made the announcement on January 14th while attending a NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) convention in Anaheim, CA.

The album is being produced by Rick Rubin. This will also be the first album released by RHCP to feature guitarist Josh Klinghoffer in place of John Frusciante. Frusciante made his departure from the band in December 2009.

Should be interesting at the very least. Hopefully Rick Rubin doesn't pull his usual trick of over-compressing the fuck out of the record so it sounds like muddled ass.

My favorite album by these guys is actually 'By The Way', but only liked a few songs from 'Stadium Arcadium', so we'll have to see how this turns out. With John Frusciante gone, I'm not holding out hope that it will be better than anything they've done post-'Californication'.

And anyways, WTF is RHCP without johnny? Stupid move on both parts. His solo records are okay, but constantly lacking the cohesion that is RHCP.

John has been better solo than the band since By the Way. I am very curious to hear what they'll make of this, if Stadium Arcadium proved anything it was that they needed a breath of fresh air.

I'm really eager to see what Klinghoffer has to offer. Frusciante was undoubtably their very best guitarist, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is a drop from "Stadium Arcadium", but let's cross our fingers that these guys can pull it off another great album!

I think I died a bit inside. album will be amazing. Josh basically is John and I'm pretty sure John actually gave him some of his guitars as his approval. I also believe in a few years time John will be back...

Thrilled Josh joined RHCP, as it paved the way for Stella Mozgawa to take over drums with Warpaint.

Still John was always the best thing going for RHCP. He's irreplaceable (nothing against Josh, who I like).

This is likely going to suck. It's been proven time and again that without Frusciante's hooks and songwriting they're nothing special. Whoever said that Klinghoffer is "basically John himself" is doing it wrong on every level... being able to play Under The Bridge note-for-note is great, but he doesn't have the cred/talent/x-factor that Frusciante does when it comes to songwriting.

Stadium Arcadium wasn't that great... typically bloated/inconsistent/overdone double album syndrome with a couple of great singles, pretty much

I sort of meant that they have been friends of ages and Josh has played on almost all of Johns albums and has a similar if not almost identical creative mindset.

Johns next solo album will still be better than this though :P

RHcP are the reason I'm on this site- my first introduction to music in 5th grade.
I don't listen to them quite as much anymore, but I still have mad respect for them for what they've done.
In terms of Josh being in the picture, I see it as something good. I liked Stadium Arcadium! However, I was afraid that with John they would get into a musical rut, because I was starting to see that. Now they have a clean slate with a man that also has a lot of experience with melody, and it's exciting for me to be able to see a band that brings me a ton of nostalgia potentially grow into something even greater.
However, it might not be so great. I don't know; I liked One Hot Minute very much, so we'll just have to see what the future brings.
