John Legend/Roots cover Arcade Fire

2010-09-27 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 18 Comments
John Legend and the Roots cover Arcade Fire's 'Wake Up' at a promotional event in New York last week.

The track doesn't appear on the combo's album, despite it also being titled Wake Up!, but it does have its very own Spike Lee-directed video.

Not as good as the original. I had a feeling the cover was going to be Wake Up.

Sounded like he botched some of the lyrics. Cover had nothing on the original.

Eh, the chorus is pretty good, however, the rest of the song suffers from a too subdued guitar and Legend's voice not really fitting. Props to the background vocalists and ?uestlove though, they're spot on.

I didn't think there was any way that a talented tandem like this could sound so shitty..... but it happened.
