BTMI! Documentary Announced

2010-07-14 by Satellite | 20 Comments
Brooklyn-based filmmaker Sara Crow Goldstein has announced plans to film a documentary centered around DIY punk band Bomb the Music Industry!, frontman Jeff Rosenstock, and his label Quote Unquote Records. The film was accepted for screening by the NYU Gallatin Arts festival. Goldstein states that she wants to make the film a feature length documentary and added the following:

"Up until now, I've been paying for the film out of my own pocket. I have twenty hours of interviews and performances featuring members of BTMI, Laura Stevenson and the Cans, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Kudrow, and Lemuria. The next step is to capture the tour experience.

Jeff and Bomb the Music Industry! have been nice enough to invite me into their lives and into their van for the upcoming tour. In order to take advantage of this opportunity to supplement and complete the extant footage, I am seeking sponsorship to cover my travel expenses and two weeks worth of equipment rental (HDV camera and sound equipment).

This will give me the opportunity to study what I suspect is BTMI's! major influence on musicians and fans as far from Brooklyn as the west coast. BTMI rarely tours the west coast, and this upcoming leg encourages a daily BBQ with the fans at each show: it is this long-distance community that I need to survey before I complete the film."

Right? I'm tailgating the fuck out of the Lansing date of that tour, too.

Also, I want to donate to this project, but they don't accept PayPal. Punx don't use credit cards. Duh.

Whoa Eric, yeah you definitely should. Surprised you've never listed to BTMI.

Sea, even though they're really not your style (I don't take you as a ska/punk fanatic) they're definitely worth a listen, if nothing else because they have an interesting and unique style and have all their albums up for free online.

A lot of their stuff isn't ska at all. Sea wrote that killer Menzingers review, and since BTMI is one of only a handful of punk bands that can match the Menzingers' levels of FUN, I'm sure he'd dig them.

Yeah you're right they don't have much ska left at this point. I always put them together with TASOB though so the ska tag is still necessary for me.
