I really shouldn't have listened to Choirs of the Eye just now, i'm totally going to be let down by this.

Based on very early first impressions (which never mean much concerning Kayo Dot), I like this a bit more than BLD. It definitely hits nowhere near as hard as Choirs / Dowsing though... hopefully it will grow on me. Sounds like a 3.5 currently.

Really interested to hear what that new EP is gonna sound like too.

Oh you crazy kids. If you didn't like bld, you probably won't like this. But I love bld; and this. Album rules overall.

This is... What the... Following BLD up with this? At least BLD raped. There's just nothing interesting going on here.

I wasn't impressed the first few listens but it's really grown on me. Great album, better than BLD imo.

Hmm been meaning to give these guys a listen, but from what I have heard from them their sound seems too immense to listen to listen to in a stream.

I have been listening to the leak for about a week, and my initial opinion has not changed: Toby is slowly relinquishing his awesomeness.

I've been listening to it intensively this past week. Didn't like the opener/closer upon first listen(s). Now that I know the album pretty well, I'd say I like it as much as their other work

if you don't like their previous albums, there is literally no reason to listen to this qwe3. it's pretty much like a lamer version of BLD.

i mean that it's lamer than BLD, not that it sounds like it. shouldn't have said lamer "version", my bad.

Lol at everyone listening to this once and making judgements on it. CotE took me like a month to get into, and up until then I thought it was boring, abstract, and uninteresting. Pardon my skepticism but I think Sputnik's being very hipster-elitist-follow the staff with this one.

i'm waiting for the right time to listen to this completely....why is everyone so against it,i'm sure most of them wouldn't have given it an another listen...and kayo dot has never been friendly on the very first listen..........

ITT: people forgetting it takes at least 2 months to enjoy any kayo dot.

I mean, choirs of the eye took a year or two to catch on after it was released if i recall

Its pretty remarkable how a song as moving and exciting as The Manifold Curiosity came from the same band that did this...they really shat the bed on this one.

If it takes 2 months to enjoy an album, then you just wasted 2 months.

it really sounds like they (he?) didn't put much thought into writing this. Choirs sounded like every moment was planned to the dot, and this just meanders every which way saying: "look here guys, i'm avant-garde!"

If it takes 2 months to enjoy an album, then you just wasted 2 months.

agreed.

i wouldn't say i wasted 2 months, it's not like this album is the only album i'll be listening to for the next 2 months, what has happened with most "dense" albums (kayo dot, bitches brew, etc.) is that i listen once go "that was cool i'm gonna go listen to normal music now" and then one day a song will come on shuffle, or i'll want to re-listen or whatever, and i'll go "wow i don't remember it being that cool" and that will repeat itself for a few months and then suddenly it will all click...

that being said, coyote has 90% clicked for me, except hte ending, i feel like it just kind of...ends

Coyote is awesome. How anyone could find it boring is beyond me. No, there are no metal guitars – does that make it boring? Hardly. The album is very nuanced, and reminds me at times of CotE. It's also more cohesive than BLD. I rate it 4.5.

Its a grower for those who like a bit of avant garde
