With all the big bands playing in a narrow range of tempos, in a small number of keys, trying to portray very similiar meanings.. you'd expect some overlap..

"Time Warp is a very popular song and has been a staple of the DJ scene for many years"
Someone thinks highly of themselves...too bad i've never heard a DJ play it...
|
| |
is this guy on crack?
|
| |
I nearly thought this was the Rocky Horror song... which would be hilarious
|
| |
they sound a little similar, but not close enough to be called a rip-off.
|
| |
LOL Eddy Grant wants to sue a bunch of digital characters!
But seriously, the songs are very different sounding.
|
| |
this dude obviously doesn't know what sampling is. only way he should take offense is if the gorillaz didn't at least credit the use of his song and if that's the case, he as every right to be pissed.

Digimon digital monsters
|
| |
digimon are the champions.
CHAAAAAAAAANGE INTO DIGITAL CHAMPIONS TOOOOOOOOOOOO SAVE THE DIGITAL world.
|
| |
Well, while I was uncertain at first, I listened to his song and damn, if no one told me me before hand about his song I'd say it was someone trying to play Stylo. I say he has a legitimate case.

Yeah significant difference.
|
| |
Would it be too cynical of me to point out that many people are now suddenly listening to Eddy Grant's music as a result of this claim? I mean, it's surely a win-win situation for him.
His greatest hits was released back in 2001; maybe it was time for a boost...

WE'RE GONNA

What is this? I don't even.

Time Warp is a very popular song
So popular that I've never even heard of it

Trying to sue an animated band, this should be interesting

Trying to sue an animated band, this should be interesting
exactly.
apparently someones 'electric avenue' royalties aren't footing the coke bill.
|
| |
He'd probably be pissed to find out there's a 80's bar in my town called 'Electric Avenue'
|
| |
Like the guy's song even matters anymore, this is turning out to be Dinosaur vs. Gorillaz
|
| |
"My song sits ALMOST note to note with their release and is a blatant rip-off."
He's got no case. Stick to your guns you damn cartoons!
|
| |
this is probably what the judge will say.

i mean, i see the similarities...but its techno/electronic music.
you have an almost set standard beat that almost every song has, it is bound to happen.
thats like the person who invented 'boom-tss-boom-tss-boom-tss' suing everyone who has that in their songs.
it couldve been an homage, thats respect even. how could you be mad that you perhaps influenced a successful music group, and they are respecting what you've done.
oh wait...its about the money...isn't it?
well, shit.

In all seriousness though, I doubt he'll get anywhere this.

LINING EM UP LIKE ASSCRACKS!
|
| |
I Hear the similarities but they both also sound like EVERY OTHER TECHNO SONG I'VE EVER HEARD.
|
| |
it's not clearly the exact same melody like the Satch coldplay thing...but I guess the guy has a point...but eh.
|
| |
"Like the guy's song even matters anymore, this is turning out to be Dinosaur vs. Gorillaz"
Did anyone else think of Megatron fighting Optimus Prime?
|
| |
guys got a case
good luck champ
|
| |
this sucks cause theyre way different but he probably still has a chance
|
| |
He has no case.
|

"apparently someones 'electric avenue' royalties aren't footing the coke bill. "
Unwarranted and completely unfounded. Eddy Grant is filthy rich and not from "Electric Avenue" alone. Dude is a savvy businessman who owns the rights to everything he's ever written (possibly the only artist to achieve major international success who can say that) and he owns the rights to more classic Caribbean music than anyone in the world, which he releases on his Ice Records label. The guy is a self made millionaire and even in his songs he preaches against drugs, cocaine in particular.
I hope this generates a lot of interest in his music, as it's all great and he deserves to be heard.
|
| |
^cool story, bro
|
| |
one of the coolest bro. he almost won a bid on the rights to bob marley's catalog. he doesn't need the money at all.
|
| |
I Hear the similarities but they both also sound like EVERY OTHER TECHNO SONG I'VE EVER HEARD.
This isn't Techno
|
| |
lol
|
| |
Holy Christ, imagine what you could do with the rights to Bob Marley's catalog. I can't even imagine.
|
| |
"this dude obviously doesn't know what sampling is. only way he should take offense is if the gorillaz didn't at least credit the use of his song and if that's the case, he as every right to be pissed."
i don't think you understand how sampling works.
Without securing the legal rights sampling is, well, illegal. Not to mention this isn't even a case of sampling as the Gorillaz weren't even using his recording.
|
| |
"Hey! that bastard band just played a C# like we used! Lets sue his ass!"
|
| |
I listened to both one after another and there is no case here.. can't wait to see this loser get flamed in court
