These guys need to break up. They're so much better apart than they are as a unit.
| |
Except RHCP are actually really solid. Stadium Arcadium was an excellent release.
| |
agreed
| |
Stadium could have been better.
| |
Stadium Arcadium was shockingly bad. Unless you like bad teen pop, shitty attempts at recapturing
their old funk rock sound and crappy ballads
| |
I already knew this, I am friends with Anthony Kiedis.
| |
^really? or am I just really gullible?
| |
just gullible
| |
Yeah, I'm 17, I live halfway across the country, and I'm friends with him.
| |
and they DO need to break up
not because they're horrible, but because Frusciante is amazing solo
| |
Stadium could have been good if It was one cd.
| |
My point exactly. Away from the band, Frusciante releases cool solo albums. Flea has done interesting stuff with the Mars Volta, played with Thom Yorke etc. Then, as RHCP, they just release bland radio rock
| |
I like their stuff up until One Hot Minute, I'm yet to hear anything past Blood, but I'm curious.
| |
this is a good thing IMO. Stadium Arcadium would have been epic if it was only one disc long.
| |
um, i like pianos.
| |
they are all great musicians with the ability to make a complex intricate meaningful rock record, yet as a unit they churn out mediocre pop rock crap, why?
| |
I don't understand how Stadium Arcadium is "teen girl rock" aside from Dani California and Snow having significant air-time.
One Hot Minute is really underrated.
| |
One Hot Minute is amazing-I can't see any chilis release being less than a 3
| |
one hot minute is tight yo. anthony kiedis needs to stop trying to sing so well and just get back down with his old energetic self.
| |
Keep rollin with the nonsensical metaphysical lyrics as well
| |
I am real interested in hearing OHM, Navarro and RHCP seems cool.
| |
RHCP are terrible.
| |
its not.
| |
stadium arcadium would have been so much better as a single album
| |
RHCP were doomed once Chad got taken in by Hollywood. I must say i'm more impressed by his comedy work than his drumming ability

Oh yeah, totally agree. Stranger Than Fiction > Anchorman > Stadium Arcadium
| |
he can play a mean cowbell.
| |
People still listen to this piece of shit band?
| |
boring band is boing
| |
I found the biography Scar Tissue to be really fascinating. But these guys are not exactly a band I enjoy listening to.
| |
the only thing i actually enjoy by them is the intro to that snow song. guitar is killa.
| |
I really dig their first few albums and then they went stale with Californication.
| |
band is nostalgia
| |
Exactly.
| |
they throw down musically, and live harder then most musicians half their age, they need to go back to the punk funk sound of their 80's releases
| |
awesome. Pretty excited.
| |
Fuck yeah early Chili's is capital O for Orsum. Mellowship slinky rides my crotch along the likes. Totally fell over after Californication though.
| |
yay! stadium was alright, i agree it should have been cut to one CD but the songs that were good were really good.
i'm really psyched :D
| |
excellent news. not surprised to see the usual rhcp hate. can't enjoy any bands that are popular..
| |
rhcp hate is ridiculously unfounded, stadium was solid, one hot minute is lame
| |
i agree. stadium arcadium wasn't great, but it had a lot of really enjoyable tunes. you have to really put an effort into disliking the chili peppers
| |
you have to really put an effort into disliking the chili peppers.
so true
| |
"Smith didn't rule out the band going in an electronic direction " I have a bad feeling about this
| |
Could be interesting.
| |
I just can't picture these guys experimenting and the result being good, take We Believe for example
| |
bssm rules no1 can deny
| |
I found the biography Scar Tissue to be really fascinating. But these guys are not exactly a band I enjoy listening to.
I agree so much with this. I read it, loved it, was inspired to listen to them for a couple of days, then realized they just aren't my kind of thing.
| |
I'l give it a try as I still listen to BSSM and OHM on occasions and they are quality. Havent realy liked anything after 2000 tbh. This will probably be very average with the odd good track. Please no pop this time though.
| |
I thought Stadium Arcadium had its fair share of good tracks (the second half of the first disc and good amount of the second), it's just the lyrics that felt uninspired to me in a lot of songs. Wet Sand is still one of my favorites of theirs. I wouldn't mind them experimenting with piano and the like, cause I thought By The Way had some great songs that were out of their usual style.
| |
I too don't understand the Chili's hate on this site, although I could see how people might not enjoy their later releases... (I personally think most of it is pretty badass.)
People just need to chill out, save the hating for the real shit. Like 99% of all commercial "indie."
| |
The problem is they peaked in 1991, but stoners and impressionable teens still hail them as music gods or something, hence the backlash from a community of people who care a lot about music. Stadium Arcadium was bland as hell too, even a single disc wouldn't have been that good.
| |
BSSM is their best album by a wide margin.
| |
Agreed with BSSM.
I won't (and frankly couldn't) argue that they're the greatest band to walk the earth, becuase they're not (although that's subjective).
I still really enjoy their stuff though.
| |
No. RHCP shouldn't break up unless they start getting sour which they haven't after all these years. Stadium Arcadium was a phenomenal release as an alternative rock album and a great double disc. They're my favorite "old" band because of their genre changes.
Listening to a song off of Freaky Styley and then listening to a song like "Snow" makes me appreciate their journey outrageously.
And Frusciante can still do solo stuff, he's a man of many products.
Go to hell all haters, non-believers, et cetera
| |
Stadium Arcadium was terrible. Jesus christ they've turned into old pussies
| |
if RHCP goes electronic, then i will lose all faith in humanity
| |
Stadium was good but no BSSM. This new one will be good as well but no BSSM. Have to respect these guys they keep coming out with good music. Might not seem groundbreaking because you hear them all the time and for so long but name a band that sounds like RHCP they are so unique.
| |
one who can hate on rhcp has travelled many a dark path - ancient chinese prverb
| |
Californication > BSSM
| |
^Yes
| |
^absolutely not..
| |
much more diverse than BSSM. Although they both rule.
| |
Stadium Arcadium was terrible. Jesus christ they've turned into old pussies
is converge still going to be as hard when they're as old as these guys?
| |
i hope not...a good band can age like fine wine or cheeses, even to where the slow evolution provides no "best" stage, but several equally desirable stages to choose from depending on taste. By The Way will always be my favorite.
| |
Plus they're one of the few "old" bands that aren't completely full of themselves or turned into snobs.
| |
Meh, this better be better than staduim. That was WAAY TOO LOONG ANNND BOORRIINNGG. AN electronic aspect might be interesting. Electro-funk rock anyone?
Also
RHCP have aged well. If they tried to be their young selves, it would be sad. It's like they haven't matured at all. I prefer their funk-hop to their radio drivel, but at least they've kept on maturing instead of releasing the same thing year after year. And yeah, they are MUCH better seperated right now. Flea is awesome with yorke and fruisciante is the shiz solo. SMith has his own jam band, the only one who NEEDS RHCP anymore is Kiedis. pooor kiedis.
| |
Benzum you are such a dick, why must you try so damn hard to impress us with your elite alternative music opinions?
Yes these dudes are mainstream but damn they put out solid albums. Stadium arcadium was awesome and way better than by the way.
| |
ohh Sputnik, you never cease to polarize my emotions with humour and bewilderment. Don't understand a lot of this thread, apparently there's just a lot of in-closet Chili fans on here afraid of marring an elitist opinion
| |
i wouldn't mind some electronic chilis i mean hey it'd be something different right
| |
electronic and funk have always gone well together, just listen to herbie hancock's headhunters.
| |
Frusciante and Flea are awesome.
But the other two guys suck.
| |
Maybe you should try watching some live stuff sometime, Mr. Coffee.
| |
RHCP really aren't that good, Frusciante is much better solo.
| |
Everybody Hates Benzum, an uproarious new sitcom coming soon to sputnik
| |
So are you. Go back to being gaslightanthem that was cooler
| |
i predict this will sound the same
as everything else they've done
| |
Youre thinking of Audioslave dipshit
| |
I thought Stadium Arcadium was pretty great, but it definitely got old quicker than most RHCP releases. It should have been one disc, lotsa stuff on there should have been unreleased or just b-sides. I'm interested to hear new material, but not as interested as I was 3 or 4 years ago.
BSSM, Mother's Milk, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan and Californication are their best, but I haven't really heard a bad album by them (never heard the self-titled). One Hot Minute is pretty boring though, save for Warped and Walkabout.
