RHCP New Record In 2010?

2009-11-01 by bodiesinflight57 | 78 Comments
The Red Hot Chili Peppers could release a follow up to 2006's 'Stadium Arcadium' by October 2010 according to drummer Chad Smith who told Clash Magazine "We're gonna write for a while, it usually takes us a while". He said the record could be released "sometime next year, maybe this time [next year]".
Smith also said that Flea's experience working with Thom Yorke recently had led to him receiving a CD of electronic music from the bassist. Smith didn't rule out the band going in an electronic direction saying "You never know. We've got songs with piano on them right now".
Chad Smith also commented on the band's recent nomination for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame saying "It's a real honor to be nominated".

These guys need to break up. They're so much better apart than they are as a unit.

Stadium Arcadium was shockingly bad. Unless you like bad teen pop, shitty attempts at recapturing
their old funk rock sound and crappy ballads

My point exactly. Away from the band, Frusciante releases cool solo albums. Flea has done interesting stuff with the Mars Volta, played with Thom Yorke etc. Then, as RHCP, they just release bland radio rock

I don't understand how Stadium Arcadium is "teen girl rock" aside from Dani California and Snow having significant air-time.

One Hot Minute is really underrated.

I'l give it a try as I still listen to BSSM and OHM on occasions and they are quality. Havent realy liked anything after 2000 tbh. This will probably be very average with the odd good track. Please no pop this time though.

I thought Stadium Arcadium had its fair share of good tracks (the second half of the first disc and good amount of the second), it's just the lyrics that felt uninspired to me in a lot of songs. Wet Sand is still one of my favorites of theirs. I wouldn't mind them experimenting with piano and the like, cause I thought By The Way had some great songs that were out of their usual style.

I too don't understand the Chili's hate on this site, although I could see how people might not enjoy their later releases... (I personally think most of it is pretty badass.)
People just need to chill out, save the hating for the real shit. Like 99% of all commercial "indie."

The problem is they peaked in 1991, but stoners and impressionable teens still hail them as music gods or something, hence the backlash from a community of people who care a lot about music. Stadium Arcadium was bland as hell too, even a single disc wouldn't have been that good.

I won't (and frankly couldn't) argue that they're the greatest band to walk the earth, becuase they're not (although that's subjective).
I still really enjoy their stuff though.

No. RHCP shouldn't break up unless they start getting sour which they haven't after all these years. Stadium Arcadium was a phenomenal release as an alternative rock album and a great double disc. They're my favorite "old" band because of their genre changes.
Listening to a song off of Freaky Styley and then listening to a song like "Snow" makes me appreciate their journey outrageously.

And Frusciante can still do solo stuff, he's a man of many products.

Go to hell all haters, non-believers, et cetera

i hope not...a good band can age like fine wine or cheeses, even to where the slow evolution provides no "best" stage, but several equally desirable stages to choose from depending on taste. By The Way will always be my favorite.

Meh, this better be better than staduim. That was WAAY TOO LOONG ANNND BOORRIINNGG. AN electronic aspect might be interesting. Electro-funk rock anyone?
Also
RHCP have aged well. If they tried to be their young selves, it would be sad. It's like they haven't matured at all. I prefer their funk-hop to their radio drivel, but at least they've kept on maturing instead of releasing the same thing year after year. And yeah, they are MUCH better seperated right now. Flea is awesome with yorke and fruisciante is the shiz solo. SMith has his own jam band, the only one who NEEDS RHCP anymore is Kiedis. pooor kiedis.

I thought Stadium Arcadium was pretty great, but it definitely got old quicker than most RHCP releases. It should have been one disc, lotsa stuff on there should have been unreleased or just b-sides. I'm interested to hear new material, but not as interested as I was 3 or 4 years ago.

BSSM, Mother's Milk, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan and Californication are their best, but I haven't really heard a bad album by them (never heard the self-titled). One Hot Minute is pretty boring though, save for Warped and Walkabout.
